Popular Post Lord Snooty
"Well Sir, you could really do with a result after the performance against Hartlepool" "Played very well against Wycombe really, should have nicked it all things accounted for" "Yes Sir, but against Hartlepool.." "Undefeated in the last 4 games of course" "Except for Hartlepool in the week, Sir. The 3-0 defeat" "Fully deserved wins against Accrington and MK Dons" "We're just going to pretend it never happened then are we Sir?" "Pretend what never happened?" "Oh dear. Right, well onto Portsmouth" "Ahh, old Pompy eh. Should be a cracking match. We can put these to the sword." "George Hirst might no-" "George who?" "Sir, really, must we have this childish behaviour?" "Yes we bloody well must! I've got the kite on Stubbs and that's that" "Sir, You're a grown man" "What's that got to do with anything? I'll tell you. Nothing! And I'll tell you why." "Why is that then, Sir?" "Because football is gone. It's gone for Sheffield Wednesday. Here we are. Slumped in the 3rd division. Getting our backsides handed to us by manager-less Hartlepool United in a tin pot Cup we shouldn't even be in. Dumped!" "I'm not sure what that has to do with George Hirst, Sir" "Now listen to me, do you think we'll ever win the European Cup before I roll off this mortal coil?" "Probably not Sir" "Win the FA Cup?" "The odds are slim" "The Premier League?" "Slimmer." "Exactly. 99% of football is tosh. 99% of our footballing memories are tosh. IT's not about winning things." "It isn't?" "No, of course is isn't. It's about the other things. Because for most clubs in the land there's no chance of winning anything. Bugger-all. No, there's no chance. But that's not why we go. We go because of tradition. We go because of the little side stories. Like do you remember Chris Waddle tackling people in a 0-0 against Liverpool in a monsoon when we were down to ten men? " "Sir, I..." "I like fairytales Stubbs. I like Happy endings. The little stories. They're what make a club. I'm never going to see us beat Madrid in the San Siro to seal a European title. No. But I could glow when I saw a thread being continued. When I could have seen the son of a Legend carry on a legacy." "Sir, this all seems a bit over the to-" "No. No it isn't. Don and Gary Megson. There's a continuity there. It's something that people can talk about. Talk about with pride. The father and son combo. Giving it all to the Owls cause. Cesare and Paulo Maldini." "I say, that comparison is a bit much sir" "No, no it isn't. It's exactly the same thing. Legendary names. Associated with a club. Forever in it's folk-law. We could have had that Stubbs. And I could have sat there with the grandson as Hirst junior was rattling in the goals for the Wednesday and said 'Ahh, I remember his dad. They have the same running gait." "You don't have Grandchildren Sir." "That's typical of you. Listen, the point is, a tiny part of my heart will break tomorrow if he bags against us. I wish him all the best , but there'll always be a lament. " "Well the rumour is he's not fit,Sir" "Oh excellent. Sod him!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PORTSMOUTH V WEDNESDAY Dec 7, 2021 7.45pm Fratton Park Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday square off at Fratton Park on Tuesday evening with just one point separating the clubs in the League One standings. While both teams remain outside of the playoff spaces, Pompey and the Owls have recently put together prolonged unbeaten streaks in the third tier. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PORTSMOUTH Despite making his return from injury at the weekend, John Marquis will likely start this fixture on the Portsmouth substitutes' bench. Much will depend on whether Cowley sticks with a back three, but Lee Brown and Ronan Curtis are both different options in defence and attack respectively. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WEDNESDAY After the tame defeat at the hands of Hartlepool United in the EFL Trophy, Moore will likely revert back to the side from the draw with Wycombe. That would see the likes of Cheyenne Dunkley, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass all reclaim their spots in the team. Theo Corbeanu is an option at left wing-back in place of Olamide Shodipo. Liam Palmer will be in contention after suffering from Covid 19 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORM ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21 4 9

Daniele Giovanni
Being a Wednesday and Borehamwood fan, I'm not into losing at the moment, so sod it a repeat of the mighty Wood result last night 4-0 to us of course, "we got Wood, we got Wood, we got Wood!!! The local girls get excited when they hear us singing this, don't know why!!!
Morepork
Not on iFollow……So, I get to use my Bein subscription which as we’ve only been on twice takes the average cost down to about £40 a game…….ffs (nobody tell Mrs Morepork) On the positive side, through the black magic that is casting I at least get to watch this on the tv.

WalthamOwl
As always an excellent OP. Tough game tonight, hope he starts Corbeanu. Think it will be a draw although I feel more confident about us getting a result tonight than I do against Crewe at the weekend, exactly the type of game we don’t turn up in. Come on Wednesday!

SwellOwl
Looking forward to watching this, hoping for a Wycombe performance than a Hartlepool one. COME ON WEDNESDAY!!!
Holmowl
Such a great OP snoots. Really nice actually. You should write gentle melancholy comedies like Detectorists or better still the finale of Blackadder goes Forth. Could call it “Wednesday goes Sixth” (which is where we could be at 10pm tonight.) It should probably be called “Wednesday goes 5th, 6th,7th, 8th or 9th Depending on Results”, but it’s a tad wordy. 2

Willie Henderson
Brilliant, brilliant opener, thank you Sir. I found it quite melancholy, heartwarming and very funny. It's so true though, and realising not many of us might witness future glory, and realising the past glories have faded into history, so all we can do is cling on to the little vignettes of triumph and happy memories. Come on Wednesday!
