About 2006 Cardiff away! Around that time I was working in circles that meant I was friends with Ricky Hatton and stevie arnold(Ashley from coronation street). A group of us including “Ashley” and Tommy Craig we’re going to the calazaghe fight that night in Cardiff so our Ashley came to the game with us.

We went round the pubs of Cardiff and met up with Tango and his mates who said we could get on his minibus to the ground. On approach to the ground we was attacked by Cardiff fans who put the minibus window through, they then leant in throwing punches and the funniest thing I’ve ever seen was when the seen the occupants and stopped in shock and stated “it’s ******** Ashley peacock” deflating the situation straight away 😂 thankfully.

We then went into Charlotte church’s mums pub before the fight in the evening, great “surreal” day, just shading the Blackpool away night with the same crew that ended up with our picture in the news of the world due to some ladies selling sleaze on Ashley’s chipolatta 😳

Definitely Portsmouth away in 2001.

Drove to Portsmouth, and parked up maybe a mile away from the ground

Walked down to fratton park and bought a programme, a tea and a biscuit

paid in to the away end , and sat by myself

watched us lose 2 nil, I think Steve Claridge scored and was player manager

Left the ground and walked back to the car

drove back home, got back pretty late as traffic was bad and had a can of fosters when I got in.

Absolutely crackers you

Brentford away april 2012…we won 2-1 and United drew at home to Stevenage. This was pretty much the day we knew we was going up and nothing could stop us. We stayed in the boozers down in Brentford as did most when had travelled, to watch them draw…the atmosphere was unreal.

Brighton on the away playoff leg was something else as well.

Wrexham in the late 70s, four of us set off in a mates old MK3 cortina, we were over halfway going along a dual carriageway and the drive shaft bust, hit the road and ripped up through the floor, between both back seat passengers, the car careered allover the road, with driver just managing to miss the cars on our inside and we went up this steep grassy embankment and came to halt and we all climbed out and sparked up our fags.

Never saw the game, tried flagging down a few cars for a lift once the nerves had settled, and set about getting the car sorted and getting home.

It was the three FA cup replays at Filbert Street in 1979

The first one I hitchhiked from north London by myself. On the way back got a lift with some Arsenal fans. Quite a laugh.

The second, a few mates, non Wednesday fans came with me. We hitchhiked in a couple of small groups. Nothing too out of the ordinary this time.

The third time there were a few more of us including one who had friends at Leicester Poly. We met them in a pub before the match.

The Leicester lot came by car and most of the group walked to the ground and me and a mate stayed in the pub and got a lift in the car.

We got to the ground and the other group had got in but it had now sold out so we did not get in to see us lose.

We went back to the pub and then ended kipping on someone's floor.

When we awoke the temperature had dropped and there was deep snow. We weren't adequately dressed to hitch back in this so we went and bought a couple of jumpers and then hitched back.

Didn't get back until Tuesday afternoon.

I was at that game because I was at uni in Southampton and regularly went to Fratton Park with my Pompey-supporting mate. A few of our other uni mates came along too, but they all sat with him in the home end.

I got soaked on the roofless away end, and we lost 2-1 (Owen Morrison pulled one back for us). Witnessed the collector's item of Des Walker having a pop from distance.

The Van!

The abandoned 'Walsall' game.

The Mini over into the Midlands. 5 in a mini.

Policeman: 'Carry on lads but keep the windows open or you'll die. Best thing to do when you get back is take it to the nearest cliff and push it off'

Bert/Sam/Betsy the Escort: Thick fog over the dales ...Sam jogging in front to show us the way. It would have been a very long way down if you hadn't sensed summat! lol

Grimsby: 'Black Ice'

Lincoln: 24 players on the pitch due to alcohol. Lying nasty plod.

Reading Away: We won!!! To the people of Reading we thank you for the tea and biscuits

Oldham/Huddersfield away: The Snake/The 'Stainrod Incident': RIP Les ... but what days!!!

Mid 80’s Liverpool at Anfield. Arranged to pick up a mate at what I thought he said was Streatham services on the M5.

So, I pull into Strensham at the appointed time thinking this must be where he meant. After 10 mins (no mobiles in those days for any young uns reading) , I thought, It must be a different service station.

I drive off and of course there is no Streatham services and I end up parking on waste ground near Stanley Park. Went to the club shop, thought I’ll just go back to the car. Bump into my mate in that Coronation Street type maze of back lanes. Unbelievable really.

Apparently he had been walking through the service station at Strensham, when he watched me disappear down the slip road and off up the motorway.

He then hitched a lift all the way to Liverpool in a very unroadworthy truck and was almost gassed by diesel fumes.

Sorry Andy, wherever you are!

i was definitely mad one away game.

Back in the early 2000's, we were due to play Gillingham away in the FA cup,  I was living in Manchester, I had been sent by work to Glasgow for the week. I got back into Manchester Piccadilly at 5pm on the Friday, after travelling most of the day on a slow train due to snow. On arrival in Manchester I phone Gillingham F.C. to see if there was any chance of the match being called off, explaining to the bloke i spoke to, about my shitty journey so far. i was assured that the game would be on, so i dashed home. picked up some clean clobber, dashed back to Piccadilly to get the train back to Sheffield, after another delayed journey, due to the weather I got to my parents home about 10pm.

Got up Saturday morning and walked down Halifax Road to catch the Intercity owl to the game. We got all the way down to the last services on the M1, where we stopped for a break, 30 minutes later when we got back on the coach, we were told the game had been postponed. I was ******** livid!

Burnley away, last match of the season, already relegated, won 7-2..people with shoes off..Ashley Westwood, Steven Haslam and Richard Wood scoring

Internet tells me Richard Evand and Allan Quinn both scored 30 yarders.

Very bizarre day.

Also Port Vale away in a friendly,  the lesser spotted Kim Olsen making his debut,  Burslem being an absolute sh*thole , kicked off as we left , fighting at a friendly before we even left the ground.

Having said that, I've seen two fans at Mansfield away in the cup throwing punches at each other on the front row of the stand , one absolute unit of a bloke and one that was 9 stone wet through..the local plod were pi$$ing themselves laughing before realising they ought to go and break it up.

Gillingham circa 77/78, coach broke down on way back in east London.

Within 5 minutes the coach was surrounded by the locals from the shithole high rise flats that surrounded us.

2 minutes later 3 cop cars surrounded us.

No M25 back then, they sent a replacement coach to get us home, could have been nasty

without plod.
