My name is Robert and I'm the Supporter Liaison Officer at Accrington Stanley.

As it is the first meeting between our two clubs and the majority of you won't have been to Accrington before I thought i'd start a thread for Wednesday fans to ask questions about your visit on Saturday. I'll do my best to answer.

Did you know that the milk marketing board wanted to use Tottenham but they refused to let them use their name.

We got about £5K for it back in the eighties when we were a North West Counties League Team.

I have a bit of a 'meta' question for you Stanleyhouse!

In your role do you go onto each club's forums and liase/ask them for questions in the same was as this?

If so:

 

1) That's genuinely fantastic and a very positive thing to do 

2) What questions are you asked most of all by most other clubs fans?

I think it’s brilliant when fans go out of their way to chat with fans of other clubs.

This is one of the great things about the lower leagues

There is a bigger “connect” with real fans

I don't do it every match. Usually for the first timers to the Wham Stadium. In the past I've done it for Ipswich, Derby and Sunderland fans.

I send information about every match to other SLOs for them to share with fans.

Nearly half of our capacity has been made available to Wednesday fans. Our fans know what to expect by now, so I spend most of my time advising away fans.

True story - In the very very early days of football forums (when the internet began years and years ago) I used to register on all the other football clubs forums as Rob Staton and offer to meet up with their hooligan crews out for a big scrap

Great stuff Robert. Can you recommend any good pubs within half an hours walk of the ground?

So the stadium is situated in a residential area. There's no parking at the stadium but fans usually park in the surrounding streets. (There is no residents only parking)

Our fanzone marquee is open for all fans at the stadium with live music before and after the match. 

The town centre is a 20 minute walk. All pubs are away fan friendly.

Welcome to Owlstalk Stan, Great Gesture by the club to give us a decent sized allocation and I can safely say that’s one mess you’ve haven’t got us into Stanley.Apart from this coming Sat just like to say all the best for the rest of the season.

What a great bit of trivia. I guess £5K back them was a useful bit of money for the club. I think anyone who was probably over the age of 10 in the 80s will remember those adverts. I still say "who are they" now when I hear your name. 

 

I didn't realise Josh Windass had played for you until I looked it up on Wiki. He's been out injured since the start of the season but looks like he might be making a comeback against Plymouth on Tuesday in the FA Cup replay. He could well feature against you on Saturday is he comes through that game okay.
