Dunkley

Recommended Posts

Literally all 4 divisions have ball playing centre backs these days.

it’s not personal with Dunkley. He’s awful with the ball , can’t pass, positional sense is poor.

He’s Ashley Westwood reincarnated

The only suitable partner for Iorfa is Hutch

Let’s be honest - Iorfa isn’t great at it either.

For me, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 is somewhat of a specialist system and you need certain players to fulfill certain roles in it.

Not every CB is comfortable in a three, particularly where there is often more expectation for them to be comfortable on the ball. You also have the issue that in a three, CBs will have to venture into the wider areas (at times) and not everyone is comfortable doing this.

It is also a fact that not all fullbacks make great wing backs, nor do all wingers. Once again, I'd view wingback as quite a specialist position where some thrive and many do not.

Our squad does not have the players at present to play in this formation. The only one who seems comfortable is Hunt. Everyone else looks uncomfortable and shoehorned into a formation that doesn't suit them, particularly in defence.

I’m sad now. Can we just stop playing out from the back please? We are garbage at it and I don’t enjoy watching Sheffield Wednesday any more. If it’s driving decision making that ends up with Marvin Johnson at CB then it’s clearly gash. Please make it stop. 🙁

It’s not just that Dunkley is bad on the ball he is so so slow!!!!!! He moves like a snail. The guy is useless. He’s not even that great in the air which many say is his best quality.

Surely we have to consider recalling Brennan?

OK, but square this circle.

We’ve a manager who insists on playing out from the back.

Dunkley is awful at this, even on the right, let alone on the left.

Who would you play on the left of Iorfa?

Hutchinson or Gibson when fit, adapt the tactics when they’re unavailable

playing out from the back, isn't totally dependent on having ball playing defenders. Any professional can play 10 yard passes...Dunkley has a couple of options in front of him, there's no reason why he couldn't play in such a system...but it's about the whole shape.

100%. Absolutely this.

And yes, I think Dunkley often look like a bombscare, but he's a much better defender than Marvin bloody Johnson.

I am a big critic of Dunkley but this decision is Moore putting his mad idea about playing the ball out from the back over basic defending.

I am old fashioned I like my defenders to defend not try and be something they are not

What the actual hell?

Accorseing to WhoScored, Dunkley wins on average 6.2 aerial duals per 90 minutes. The next best in the squad is Iorfa with 4.1, then Sam Hutchinson with 3.5. Taking a step back, 'only' 9 players in the division win more aerial duals than Dunkley per 90 minutes of football played.

You're allowed to not rate a player, but don't just make stuff up.

Not looking great for Moore. Adenarin interview yesterday and Dunkley coming out with this.

I know neither are hardly slagging the gaffer off, but seems a very frustrated camp.

Signs are there, the cracks are starting to appear.

But is anyone surprised???

He may win them, but not convincingly imo.

They never go very far out of danger. Stats can be misleading.
