Soft embargo  doesnt mean you cant pay fees, it means you have to go via the efl and they decide wether to sanction the deal or not

We can't pay fee's, it's literally mentioned quite regularly. From various sources.

We arnt allowed to sign players for fee's. Byers was free as was Gregory and the rest.

The reason for that is that we broke a whole load of efl rules.

And I quote

"It was confirmed by the English Football League that the Owls are no longer under a transfer embargo and can now bring in some much-needed reinforcements.

But Wednesday are still operating under some restrictions imposed by the EFL. Yorkshire Live can reveal the Owls can't pay any transfer fees this summer and are only permitted to sign players on a free or loan".

ergo a soft embargo of sorts.

Qoute right back at ya

Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be operating under the terms of a ‘soft transfer embargo’ and are in discussions with the Football League to have it lifted. The Hillsborough club, who are now the subject of an embargo for the second consecutive year, are unable to register players with the restrictions in place unless any deal is given dispensation by the Football League.

It's a soft embargo. How else would you describe not being to sign players for fee's ? Or transfer restrictions?

Jeez. It's like talking bus shelter.
