It’s forward thinking and you never know, we might just land ourselves some excellent young footballers out of it. After the years of signing older experienced professionals, I’m really pleased to see that we seem to be moving away from that model and these types of initiatives are exactly what we should be embracing to build a sustainable future. Tewkesbury Posted October 9, 2021 Share Posted October 9, 2021 Youth development doesn't fall under FFP or P&S, allowing the bigger clubs to throw money at it in ways that we could only dream. As much as I'd like to develop out own talent, the kids from the top clubs get resources and training that our first team don't even get. They also get the pick of the schoolkids. A partnership with Man U, with arguably the best youth pedigree in recent years can only be a good thing. They get to train with the big boys, and form relationships with us that could help us with loans, or if they don't make it at Man U. Our own youth and coaches can see where they differ, it's a vital insight that would not normally be available. It also shows that we're trusted enough to host these players and not be a detriment, hopefully making us more attractive for younger loans and releases from the big clubs. We're not going to the Premier any time soon. Anything that makes us more attractive to young players is a bonus. Look at FDB and Adeniran, a bit more experience and they could both potentially be Wednesday legends. Being seen as a good move for these young players can only improve our team and club, be it loans, or saving money on transfer fees, to resale down the line. I don't see why you think it can only be a good thing for us when we are taking another clubs youngsters who they can't get out on loan so come here on an alternate mechanism which is work experience And another thing - these top clubs academies sure produce some top talent but they also have a lot of players who will ply their trade in non league football We will not be getting the next Scholes or Giggs - as ever those calibre players will either be in/around Man U 1st team or on loan in the Champs or premier We'll be getting the ones they can't get out on loan as an alternative to them just playing u23 football - which is rubbish as a development tool 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's a short term, few weeks at most thing. They aren't going to play, just train with and be around the first team. As it said, it's sort of a preparation for loans later on. It's for the ones who aren't ready for loan yet. It's good for us in that, if some of these players do get released, or loaned, or even other better players loaned, we'll be seen as a good destination. Say we have Neville Jr. and Chadwick Jr. Not the best at Man U but OK. They come here, see the sights, go out on student night, have some good training time with the team. They go back. Ronaldo Jr and Scholes Jr are looking for a loan for a year. Nevvers and Chadders put their arms around them and say "Sheffield's not a bad place to go. Staff are a good lot, manager's OK, and you'll learn a bit or two from some of the players." They may not come, but at least we're on the radar. We don't need the next Scholes. StirlingOwl Posted October 11, 2021 Share Posted October 11, 2021 Clubs are finally waking up to big changes that are coming with the criticism that has been levelled at them for dropping kids and leaving them with nothing if they don’t secure a contract once they exit the academy system. While people might not see it as entirely beneifital to us but if it gives just one kid that opportunity in football they wouldn’t otherwise have got. Then it’s got to be worth it. It doesn’t just have to be a pro football role either, there are strong moves to get kids who don’t make it in the game to persue other avenues such as coaching, refereeing and education programmes. Tie ups like this could help when it comes to players making decisions on the future, having relationships with coaches, players and knowing the facilities could help push a few to sign for us when they drop out of the academy system. Our club has a long way to go when showing clubs we are to be trusted with their players after the number of disaster loans we have had (not playing players and when doing so out of position) and this will help with that.
