Booing the referee at Hillsborough

Recommended Posts

Just imagine how much easier it would be for refs without having a dozen or more players cheating for most of the game. Just imagine how much better it would be to watch football games without all the holding, shirt pulling, time wasting, complaining to the referee after getting caught cheating etc? Why have we allowed cheating to become such a big part of the English game? It always seemed to be a foreign problem, but now everybody is at it and we would have laughed at anybody doing some of the stuff they do now. We would have been mocked and so ashamed if we had grabbed hold of somebody at one time, but now it is common place. They all want booking until it stops and it would not take long to do. In prem and league games, every case of holding or shirt pulling could be fined and booked until it stops, with video evidence used to support the fines with the worst offending clubs being docked points for every so many of these bookings. Cheating clubs and players would then suffer the consequences, rather than the teams that they cheat against and football players could concentrate more on entertaining us by playing football. The money raised could go into supporting grass roots football and getting the real respect and anti cheating messages across. Teams that get players booked for time wasting should also get points docked in a similar way, because they are robbing the game and the fans by shortening the game by cheating. The points deductions would kick in automatically and would only affect constant offenders, so teams could avoid points deductions, or not. It would be a hard lesson for many, but we would see more football at the end of it all and stop having to watch the negative aspects of football get worse, season after season.

Anfield, old Trafford and other big clubs all get decisions going their way at home.

I never seen a good referee booed. Even after making a decision that may influence the result.

Fans may be totally biased but a good referee is always preferable to fans.

At Hillsborough our problem is we are not intimidating enough.

I realised this after going to old Trafford and seeing how the fans intimidate when the team needs them

Many referees and assistants do the job and are conceited egotistical jobsworths.

Tried with our County FA to suggest referees should receive videos from clubs who use them for player development and basically had it thrown back in my face with that same old message - ‘the referee is always right’

Whilst that culture exists all the way down the football pyramid the standard will continue to be 💩
