Popular Post Ibbo48
100% better back then . You won, drew, lost, went to the pub after a match talked about it ,laughed about it, enjoyed it or moaned about it. The day after you just moved on to the next match. No dissecting a match , calling players and slagging mates off that didn’t agree with you for days till it came round. Social media has screwed the game just as much as it’s screwed modern day life. To some people it is their life and they have none without it . How can that be good , seriously ?. 24
Pieman
Social media as an outlet for sports fans is an utter car crash.

( sorry this may exclude many as they will not know a time before social media) I think it’s better, but we as supporters have a role to play in being more respectful and not posting while we’re gutted. negative comments will have a negative effect. Positive comments will have a more positive effect. For me, we have one of the best squads and managers in this league. We also have the biggest support, and our support can have a positive or negative effect. last three result have been poor, we expect better and I’m sure we’ll see better result, as except for Plymouth away, we’ve done enough to win every game this season. matthefish2002
Social media doesn't lend itself to people with a balanced, sensible middle of the road opinions. Think people take a more extreme view just to get attention.

Southie_Owl
Not a fan of social media myself, I have no social media profile apart from my membership on here. Just don’t think it’s nice for the nasty people in the world to have a platform to abuse others. For example you go on YouTube and look at the comments being made to a musicians music video and some are just unnecessary abuse. Okay so you don’t like Ed Shearan, just don’t watch the video and don’t abuse him or the people that do. So as for social media and football, I’d rather read players and journalists thoughts on official websites or newspapers where Joe Nutjob can’t post abuse.
sage owl
Social media has become a real time thief for so many people. To get the positives out of it I think you have to be really careful with the amount of time dedicated to it, so many people I know seem to overdo it including myself at times. ( sorry this may exclude many as they will not know a time before social media) The whole thing about interviews just makes me laugh now Any time fans criticise what players say in interviews, or say that there should be no photos of the players looking happy midweek - I just laugh at them now It deserves no further attention than that The issue here isn't social media, isn't interviews, isn't what the players or manager says, and isn't the midweek good vibes photos The issue here is simply the fans that are trying to turn it into something it isn't If the fans who say the interviews are an issue stop watching the interviews they say they aren't interested in the problem immediately goes away Owlstalk Shop

Lord Snooty
There are some balanced ones out there. They tend to be drowned out or not as widely seen because people like the short sharp blast. The most popular titles always include the word "rant". Look at Arsenal TV. Would they get the views if they had balanced guests on? I'd suggest not. The big Geordie chap has built a new career on the back of some shouting and bawling and effing and blinding. Drama sells. That's the truth of the matter.
asteener1867
Theres certainly more pressure today than there was back then...I mean you wrote a letter to the Green 'un...and it was at least a week before someone replied "CN ut" Its straight away now The manager has to explain his tactics almost immediately and every single one of us knows where he went wrong and tap it out fans who simply had the 3 shouts of "Away"!!!!!!!!!!!!...."Handball"!!!!!!!!!!1 "Offside"!!!!....now whitter about "playing a roamin' number 10 in the hole"...Can you imagine coming outta Hillsborough in the 70's..sitting in the Beehive post match..and a bloke takes a sip and says,, ,"Ashurst though..his game management...no roaming number10 playing in hole FFS!" You would simply escort him to the door and ring a taxi........... 6
sheffield_dave
Depends. I don’t see Owlstalk as being much different to the pub or chatting at work etc. People have always talked about the games. And at the risk of sounding utterly ridiculous, I do think generally the level of chat about games on here is fairly good. Most people are fair and reasonable and know what they’d like to see without rambling on about stats like xG or made up positions. Twitter is a cess pit. I’m convinced 95% of replies to any one thing on Twitter are by people who have never stepped into a stadium before. And of them, half will support another team anyway and the other half will be bots and not actually exist. Awful.

NobbyStyle
I’ve said it before, I blame tv pundits for a lot of the discussions that happen about tactics or where a player or manager is going wrong. They seem to want to “out analyze” each other & it’s contagious.

I would back the club coming off Twitter because all you seem to see on there is abuse. Club should stick to putting important news on Facebook and any interviews/videos on Instagram. Quite like been able to talk about football throughout the week on Owlstalk though.
acquiescefc
Id say 5% of it is good. Seeing that young un doing charity walks and stuff, finding out more about the players than just a page in the program that said Gary Shelton likes lasagna and The Godfather. Players were just your heroes week in week out. Watching the game on teletext and reading the play by play result in the Green Un. Could never quite fathom how a whole newspaper could be created between leaving the game and getting into town. Now its just numbskulls attacking everyone and everything after a bad game for likes/dislikes.
