Derby- Enter Administration

When you look at what’s happened at Leicester, Leeds and Southampton, where loads of small businesses probably went under, it’s appalling that they are paying out massive contracts while those businesses are lost forever. There should be some way that those families have a debt lodged to be paid if better days return. A bit like a Dave Allen has with us.

Leeds actually ripped off St John’s Ambulance when they went into admin. Pretty shocking to be fair.

TBH, rules should be in place that maximum wages apply to each level of the football pyramid. If a team goes down, then the wages automatically drop to the level of the lower league and it should be a statutory requirement of all players contracts.

If it were, then this problem of having to finance players on ridiculous wages wouldn't even exist.

Can't to this  like the old days of indentured servitude. Courts would rule it out immediately.

I am not entirely sure if the rules have changed and the tax bill is now a secured creditor where they have to be paid 100% of there money.

If it is and it's as high as you say it is then there is a high chance Derby could fold.

Bleak times ahead for them. Even if they do find a buyer. Got to feel sorry for there fans. Could have easily been us.

It still could be us relegation didn’t cure everything.

I read somewhere he is worth 58 million, if he did this he could halve the wage bill straight away by not paying himself.

He’s not being paid afaik. Deferred his wages a good while back, not long after he took the managers job iirc.

Big mess and you feel for the fans as it could get worse still

A lot are  blaming sky, but all they have done is pump money in. It wasn't them that created the wealth gap between the prem and other leagues. They don't choose where to money goes

The sky and premier league arrangement created the market for big spending. If it wasn’t sky it would be someone else, it’s just capitalism. However, as we saw with the super league rules are created to suit certain clubs. They don’t want rich owners buying clubs in the championship and propelling upwards so in return for “solidarity” cash the clubs had to buy into FFP and then P&S.

I think the Derby situation is a different argument now as if you lose 13m a year you’re ok with p&s but Derby can’t even pay that. You could say that the uncertainty re FFP has stopped them selling though and avoiding admin. I get the point that “these are the rules” etc and that chairmen should know better but it’s a heavily rigged situation that a few clubs tried to break through. Leicester and Wolves did so successfully whereas us birmingham, Derby, reading failed and have been suffering ever since. The premier league has turned EFL clubs against each other, squabbling over finance, whilst they do their own thing.

Apparently they had a buyer lined up. That was subject to the EFL dispute being settled, which is why they agreed to the 9 points, feeing it gave the new owners time to keep them up.

That deal then collapsed leaving Morris with two options. Keep losing money or walk.

There is agreement that the company that now owns the ground ( KPM?) can buy the club if they go into admin. What’s not clear is if they have also gone into admin, or they don’t want to take up the option.

either way it’s looking like a 21 point deduction and two year transfer ban at the minimum.

This is what I was trying to point when people were saying Chansiri, should just walk. We would have been in exactly the same mess.

Awaits Niels Eric Morecombe “ be careful what you wish for” emoji.

We ARE in exactly the same mess.

We got relegated with a points deduction and still aren't allowed to spend any money on transfer or loan fees.

Did we get Bailey Peacock Farrell for free then as it was reported there was a 300k loan fee

Hopefully follow Bury

What??

Regardless of wether you like DCFC or not, the demise of a football club shouldn’t be something to relish if you are a fan of football and English football. Sad times and ones we have been all too close to.

The mess we have been in got us to where we are now and we are far from out of the woods yet. However, the squad we have now is better than the vast majority would have expected us to have right now and the restrictions we are under may have actually helped us to improve our over spending on players and wages.

Derby, like us have only got themselves to blame but the EFL have to look at their rules and regulations, consider what the rules are supposed to do, and assess why so many clubs are ending up in this situation. Overspending comes as a result of chasing the dream, trying to compete with the spending power and draw of clubs with parachute payments etc. While the owners ultimately only have themselves to blame for the financial mismanagement, the EFL have to see that the way they are trying to prevent this is clearly not working given the increase in clubs getting into such a mess.
