Not a fan

Of these ready rusted buildings that are popping up all over.

They put me about.

Also, looking at the texture gives me a bit of the fingers down a blackboard sensation.

Seems to be the material of choice of late.

Taking over from the green unpolished copper look.

Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good.

Corten. Was fashionable about 10 15 years ago but appears to making a resurgence in Sheffield. Not a huge fan either, needs a client who doesn't value engineer the design to within an inch of the original design intent for it to look good. Sadly that rarely happens

When I first saw one of those buildings I thought the building had the cladding removed for fire regulations. It wasn't until I saw a new building with the rusty look that I realised it was done by design.

This large apartment block on Summerfield St/Napier St has that type of finish.

There is also a building on Green Lane Kelham with the same finish.

That looks like it's waterproof

looks like the rain hits it and gets absorbed or summat

Very odd

I’d say the increased popularity is definitely linked to Grenfell.

Cor-ten is essentially fire proof (though a better term may be fire resistant).

I suspect the surge in popularity of brick and cor-ten on new build high rise blocks is a direct response to the tragedy.

The owls are not what they seem.

American video, but some of the points definitely count here:

Very interesting this, and you can see it all around Sheffield if you think about it.

I remember a university building, brand new façade, not sure if was a brand new building now -  about 6 years ago, a vehicle reversed into it and it crumpled.

Was never replaced, just kind of half arse repaired.

The new 'Gaumont' building planned in Barkers Pool (the red framed old Odeon cinema/Kingdom nightclub/Embrace nightclub, etc) looks to be having some living walls built into it when it is done.
