Dunkstar
Portsmouth Chief Exec quote In the linked article the Portsmouth Chief Exec refers to 'one club who’ve skewed the market this summer' in terms of wages being offered in league 1. Is this us? We've certainly cut lots of high wage players from last season which should allow us to spend above average amounts at this level but then again both Sunderland and Wigan have had takeovers with reported significant sums to spend so maybe not..... Thoughts?

Willie Henderson
Maybe it is us? Assuming you measure your expenditure in tins of tuna, which it's worth its weight in gold, according to our glorious leader. I'm guessing the players are getting sick of it by now, despite the brine, spring water and oil options available.
camffiti
I think Portsmouth missed out on a signing, to Ipswich and their manager had a little flounce

Didn't know that. That makes it more likely to be Ipswich then. I guess if it was us he'd have to have got £40k a week in there somewhere. Beauchief Owl
Well I'm thinking Gregory, BPF and Byers wouldn't drop down to L1 without being offered a decent wage and of course we've got high earners from last season still on the books. In reality though, I think several clubs probably pay significantly higher wages than the average for L1 which is about 5k per week.

Guest LondonOwl313
I can see it being us.. Byers, Johnson, Gregory have all come from Championship clubs and were under contract. Adeniran rejected championship clubs to come.. Berahino has never dropped to such a low level before. We’ve also resigned Iorfa and Windass, both solid championship players. Natural conclusion is that we’re paying Championship wages to players
NeonLeon
Didn’t Ipswich move for one of Pompeys better players only for it to fall through? As impressive as our signings have been, Ipswich have attracted some players I wouldn’t have expected to drop to this level. Most of the perceived ’big hitters’ we’ve got were already here too. Can only assume they’re offering big money, which given their horrendous ticket pricing I’d expect as an Ipswich fan!

We expected so much but it nearly broke the club. High gate prices guarantee nothing.
Bluesteel.
It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s us. Our wage budget was very big even for the championship teams without parachute money. It will have come down a great deal but when compared to teams who had budgets of 2.5m or 4.5m (when Rotherham came up) I’d bet we are still 2 or even 3 times that. wigan paid Charlie Wyke championship wages though to get him (rumoured 10k a week) and Ipswich have been aggressive in terms of taking a lot of players from other league one sides or above. It sounds like 3/4 clubs have skewed the usual market this year. Sunderland didn’t spend what I thought they would given they also have a new owner. McRightSide
It has to be us, look at the players we’ve signed Meanwhile Ipswich are using Matt Penney in their starting line up (until they realize after about 7 games that he’s not actually very good)
