Said on the radio this morning one plan being talked about is a world cup every year for three years then play the Euros etc then go back to three years world cup then Euros etc.

Yeah that’s daft. I’d be in favour of the WC every two years though

Apparently Wenger is a key driver behind this, which is odd as he was always very vocal about player burnout when at Arsenal.

Player burnout is something for a manager to worry about though isn’t it. Entertainment wise we don’t care about player burnout

I love that one of the reasons given is too much of the money in concentrated in certain areas ( ie the big European clubs). Well do something about that then! Instead of trying to drag more money out of the paying public. Make it a level playing field like it used to be, when the likes of Wimbledon could go all the way to the top, and forest and derby could win the European cup. It’s the governing bodies who have rolled over and allowed this situation to develop.

And now their answer to the problem is make more money!

Pedantry time: Derby never won the European cup.

Burnout is a problem in many other sports and professions like tennis and nursing. It loses its impact with football not recently due to the pandemic restricting travel. In the past we've had the likes of Wenger saying players are tired they need a winter break then in the close season they're jetting off to the far east, America, Australia to play matches.
