Didn't they take out a huge loan last season against all the future parachute money?

Just the other four charges to sort then. Not having a go by the way, appreciate you posting. Wish there for a few more like you, that’s capable of rational discussion. There’s a niceHereford fan that posts, but other than it’s just angry dingles, and a few messed up blades. Not heard from them for about, what will it be, oh yeah about 18 months.

As far as I’m aware, in the age of the undisclosed fee, the players we’ve signed permanently from another club this summer have been on frees (presumably with a generous sell on % in some cases). I think we’re out of the embargo but the EFL are keeping a close eye on us so we’re finally going down a more sustainable route, like a normal football club. 
 

It seems that clubs have been happy to shift some players off their wage bill and we’ve shifted a lot of deadwood and their hefty wages off ours (as well as selling some players for a few hundred grand) so we’ve had a bit of flexibility to do some shrewd business.

 

Despite relegation, things are looking much healthier on and off the pitch, but, much like yourselves, we’re all acutely aware that we’re never too far from some kind of madness

I'd absolutely love to see boro get into trouble for overspending or summat. Pubehead goes on like they're completely innocent and run properly but I bet if the EFL wanted to they could find summat. They had parachute payments and failed to go up, he's bitter about that and doesn't like others having the advantage he had and wasted. 


Boro were always a club that had a reputation for spending big and certainly beyond their means. Just like Newcastle did. 
 

A bit like wilder saying he was doing things the right way, as soon as the chance to spend comes along they all do it. 
 

I thought we had a slow painful FFP tale (we did) but it sounds like Derby’s could rumble on and on. The issue now though is whether they can afford to pay their way which is a bigger issue or should be.

It'd be the HMRC one I'd be most concerned about. As soon as we got to that stage we nearly went out of business. They don't mess about trying to make companies go under

We're lucky at the moment, most of our visiting posters are decent who just enjoy proper discussion on the issues facing the game and our clubs. Previously we've had too many knobheads from other clubs who just want to wind people up. It's a nice change and long may it continue.

We should be able to pay our way. Our annual income is normally @£30m and our wage bill is now heading south of £15m. If we could shed Rooney and Lawrence it would be @£10-12m. The fans don’t miss the overpaid dross. We are quite happy with Lee Buchanan, Jason knight, Louie Sibley (derby fan) and Jack stretton etc. Pack the gaps with players who have the right attitude until we can build again. 

Mel managed the club like a complete amateur. His heart was in the right place - sort of. He was just a fan who fluked huge wealth, not because he was great at running companies but because he was a chancer who was in the right place at the right time with his internet companies  He is a fan from the Clough era, when we had a great team and broke the British transfer record a few times. There was a great buzz to making the big signings. Mel thought he could ride a wave on the back of our will hughes- George Thorne-Craig bryson-Chris Martin team. Like so many ego-maniacs he wanted to be the big man pictured with the big names, waving to the crowd. But he went daft signing players that we didn’t need, and killing the group bond in the process. Not a single signing improved the team but the wage bill mushroomed to £45m!! He was suddenly losing tens of millions and locking us into contracts with players who contributed nothing. If it failed he sacked the manager at great cost and simply did it all again from scratch. After Clement, Pearson, Rowett, Lampard and Cocu, the money has simply run out. He has amassed huge debts - mostly to himself - and stripped us of owning our own stadium. everything that followed reeks of crisis management. Like a gambler who staggers away from the casino after losing the lot it’s hard not to feel a pang of sympathy for the idiot. But we need to put the MM era behind us, mend fences, build bridges, and move on from the mess that he has created. Hopefully most of the debt disappears with him. 
 

But you are correct - external debts to HMRC and others are the real problem. We nearly went bust in the the mid 80s - only ten years after winning the league, and here we are again, failing to learn the lesson from our own history.
