Sky sports news - Barry Bannan on his way for £1 Million

Recommended Posts

Not surprised in the slightest  at the reaction to this.

Life on here is like somebody farting in a crowded room and then their being an inquest to find who it was followed by a lot of arguing and bickering then once the guilty party is found they are then hung, drawn and quartered.

Back to the topic though, does anyone really expect Bannan to be playing League 1 football next season?

If that was the case DM would know he would be gone so would not make sense him being in his plans if he won't be here. Also i am sure DM would have wanted it sorted asap.

Darren Moore's "planning" as far as picking players is concerned is selecting from what he's got. That's it.

I'd still be surprised if Bannan and Windass are here against Charlton, but Moore has no choice but to play them if they are regardless of what else is going on. He doesn't have the luxury of leaving them out.

He was probably being a bit crafty, there probably wasn't a release clause if we stayed in the Championship.

As much as some of us might be disappointed to lose him, we'll have done well out of this. He was well within his rights to wait and see if we stayed up before signing but he didn't, so a relegation release clause is perfectly understandable.

He's more than proved himself at Championship level.

A million quid is a lot of money to the club at the moment and we can't justify having anyone on big wages in League One. Over spending is the reason we've ended up in this position.

Always thought it was 50/50 he stayed

Don't think £1m is that bad a fee given he is 32 this year and realistically saves £2.5 of the budget for next year (£1.0 m income and nearly £1.5m in saved wages).

Disappointed if he leaves but not end of the world

Agree, if he goes hopefully it's to Brentford and he gets chance to play in premier League before retiring

It would be another £2million off the wage bill for his contract plus a million in the bank for a 31 year old. Tempting.

The money will pay this month's wages.

Don't selling clubs normally have an obligation to pay up a players contract if they sell a player?

In which case, we'd make a £1m loss?

Just because 'it's a million more than we would have got' doesn't mean it's a good deal for the club.

We could have got over 2x that, easy.

We've shafted ourselves by mismanagement, again.

exactly this. There was a right time to sell Bannan when we would probably have got a decent bit more than 1 million. As you say more mismanagement

His market value is £1.62m.

So if we got £1m for him, plus his salary off the wage bill, it would be the most sensible bit of business in years.

Especially if some of that money could then be used to get more players through the door.

Forget for a minute the fee, even without that the saved wages would fund two decent strikers and a goal keeper at league 1 level and have money to spare.
