Pablo Bonvin
With Chansiri in charge, any prospective players would be more inclined to insist on a “play if you get paid” contract.

swfcjack27
Always love a ‘pay as you play’ signing suggestion. I know we’re bad but we ain’t in the Northern Counties yet They don’t exist as contracts in the football league.

They sound so good, until you realise that another club will offer a more permanent contract situation at the time and rule you out. Or the player proves their fitness and signs with a club higher than you/demands a wedge to stay on. Are they even legal if you have them training all week and not getting paid? Why do people always suggest them?!

Why do people always suggest them?! Because they're akin to commission based positions in sales. A basic salary that doesn't break the bank with rewarding bonuses for hitting and surpassing targets ether it be appearances or goals in football or cars/sofa's/contracts sold in sales roles! Are we in a position to offer something which might tempt Andy Carroll down to League One without bankrupting the club, whilst at the same time protecting ourselves should his injury woes reappear? I doubt it. I do too if I’m honest. Think there would be plenty of championship interest without having to consider league 1.

Beauchief Owl
1 hour ago, areNOTwhatTHEYseem said: https://www.themag.co.uk/2020/02/andy-carroll-pay-deal-at-newcastle-united-made-public-report/ When he arrived in August at St James Park as a free agent, it was widely reported he was on a ‘pay as you play deal’. At the time though, no figures were given to the one year contract that the striker signed. Now though on Friday, some figures have been put to that contract. The Guardian reporting that their information is that Andy Carroll is on a basic of around £20,000 per week. With then the ‘pay as you play’ part of the deal, seeing the 31 year old receive an extra £75,000 each time he starts a game, plus £35,000 each time he comes off the substitutes bench. If that's what people mean by 'pay-as-you-play', then it's a misnomer, surely? £20k per week basic salary isn't what I imagine when people use that phrase. Interesting, but it shows deals can be structured in this way. Obviously a L1 club is going to be looking at a much lower set of figures than in this case as with say a Ravel Morrison had he come. I agree re Carroll, it's a non-starter.

I'm sure there must have been a few instances, but surely not to the extent that they seem to get suggested on here? Hardly ever. It's the 2020s. Players have all the power.
