If he goes and we get a decent fee for him then so be it. We can cope without him.

But every manger we have ever had has had him as the main focal point of the team despite the things you highlight. Surely that must mean that he brings so much more to us as a player then just the few things you picked up he that he can't do.

Totally agree but he’s not getting any younger so maybe it is time to ‘cash in’ on him after all he will start to deteriorate at some point in the future. Admittedly we don’t know how many good seasons he has left in him.

£3-4m and gone probably. Byers could be decent but only started 4 out of 14 games for Pompey.

It's worrying that he couldn't even get starts at Portsmouth and in the last year at Swansea he was out for long periods with groin and ankle injuries

Agreed Grandad but the money may help secure better quality free agents or loans

It surely now all comes down to if we can afford it.

If we can afford to keep Bannan, keep him because 99% likely we cant get anyone better under these transfer restrictions.

If we need cashflow etc to get the better free agents then fair enough. Only Chansiri knows how it lies with regards to this...

Barry Bannan the 141st most creative player in the Championship last season.

Thats me being schooled.

lol

141st by what metric?

26 Championship players had more assists than him, but that only tells part of the story, of course.

As we're well aware, the players in front of Bannan were hardly the most clinical, which can be seen by the fact that only 4 players who made more than a dozen appearances made more key passes per game than him, and only two of those were central midfielders.

Got a feeling he'll stay unless pushed. To me he likes being the 'main man' , nearly guaranteed a start and untouchable. If he moves their he could be a squad player at bes.

At his age he'll be wanting to play every week

Reportedly has a lot of sway at the club too.

When we saw the supposed wages that Bannan had signed up for we wondered if he had signed a new contract to get the club some money, when another club comes in for him, otherwise we would get nothing.

There are pros and cons with any player that plays for us, if they were the perfect player they would play for Man City or one of the other top teams. The thing is with Bannan, that he can put some lovely balls through and does work hard for the team, he takes most of the corners, free kicks, penalties etc and especially without Reach or anybody else that would provide so many assists, when he plays he dictates the way that we play, which is great when he is in top form, but when he isn't there the other regular players are then not used to making decisions attack wise and we look hesitant and disfunctional in attack. However, with different people delivering corners, taking free kicks (especially direct ones) I think we could score more goals, because his corners and direct free kicks were too easy to defend against and too similar in delivery. With the new players we can attack with a totally different and more direct style, with a lot more of our players getting involved in the decision making process when attacking and pushing each other to attack with more pace. It would be great if Bannan could stay and weave his magic when we will need it in some games, but with Hunt, Adeniron and co all offering different options, hopefully if Bannan does go, these players will have to step up and show us the best that they can do. Ultimately, if it is not enough, we may need to bring in somebody using the money made/saved from Bannan going, but he will go one day and it definitely feels like we have been a bit more clever than normal by getting him to agree a new contract. Nice one Bazza!
