After Signing Winnall at that point one of the top strikers in the league for £500k we should then not have wasted £2m on a loan fee and wages for Rhodes they were the same striker but one cost 20x more than the other. Winnall getting as much game time as Rhodes that season would have scored more goals. Add the £15m we wastes on Rhodes (fee + wages) to the £20m for Reach and Fessi and we would have been fine, probably then not had to sell Joao who would probably scored the goals we needed then and now. The injuries being a major issue. I still remember when we signed him, it was announced quite late at night and it was exciting times for us to spend millions on foreign players, that we’d never heard of but looked alright on YouTube. In recent ones few have gone on to better things - Antonio springs to mind. in the past Kovacecic, Petrescu, Thome, Brunt, Whelan.
