Let’s say there were 1000 racist tweets that had to be removed. Maybe it was a bit more than that, but let’s go with it.

 

Then factor in that Southgate said the majority of abuse came from overseas. A majority means more than half.. not got the figures but it could easily be 3/4s of it coming from Eastern Europe or Asia where racism isn’t viewed negatively.

 

That leaves 250 tweets coming from the U.K. Now when someone sends one, if it gets through the filter then they aren’t going to get auto blocked, someone would have to report them and then it would have to be moderated etc, could take hours. Which means the same account could easily send half a dozen tweets before it gets removed.

 

But it’s easy to see that there could be a grand total of 50-100 people in the U.K. behind this. Yes arresting 5 of them isn’t enough.. but the idea that there’s tens of thousands of racists sat there tweeting and getting away with it is wrong
