According to those who know better than me, Dom means the restrictions that are enforced on all league 1 clubs regarding wages being a certain percentage of the club’s turnover (or whatever the correct word is here).

Don't forget they've had three years of failure payments to help them spend, spend ,spend.

Yes, and, like Villa, they still made huge losses after treating the parachute payments like a bonus transfer kitty in their first season down. Villa managed to squeeze into the play offs and go up in their third year, but it'll be interesting to see what happens to Stoke, and Swansea, next season as their parachute payments have now gone.

Who have Stoke bought?

They spent an absolute fortune after they got relegated , spending millions on players like Afobe, Ince, MacClean, Clucas, Vokes, Etebo, Batth and more. Shaqiri for about £13m was the only significant outgoing. So they had their wages to pay for the next few years as well, and although they didn't spend so much in the next couple of years they still brought in freebies on decent wages, like Chester, Fletcher and Obi Mikel.

Completely unsustainable wage bill for the championship, even with the parachute payments. Unless they fluke a promotion they could be in big FFP trouble next summer.

Different Dani wasn't it? The one who played for West Ham

Hmm well this article: https://www.theguardian.com/football/1999/apr/22/newsstory.sport8 says "Daniel Garcia Lara"

Quote

According to sources here, Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday last month lodged offers of about £4.5m for his services.

The controls relate to wages not losses. So he can spend what he wants on transfer fees - they seem to be irrelevant.

From EFL site

"These rules require League 1 clubs to limit their spending on players’ wages to 60% of turnover plus 100% of Football Fortune income (e.g. financial donations, transfer income, revenue from cup matches), with a club relegated from the Championship being able to operate at 75% of turnover for a transitional period of one season."  In theory that should automatically put us in a good place given our crowds, and therefore turnover,  will be higher than most clubs in this division.  But it also means if Chansiri wants to donate the cash to Wednesday not pay it in as a loan he can spend just about whatever he likes.

Yes, we were linked with Dani who played for Mallorca and signed with Barcelona after getting linked with us.

We got linked with Michael Mols, Henrik Larsson and Paraguay or Chile striker who's name I can't remember.

I always thought it was the Portuguese Dani.

Guess I could have just read Dani back in the day and assumed it was the ex West Ham Dani

One we got linked with was twice the player, though.

Proabably why he went to Barcelona instead of us 🙂

We should have gone for the Portuguese one, we probably had more chance 🤣

Let's hope DC has learnt some lessens and we can change direction. There's a lot to do, and building bridges with the fan base is the next step. He'll be supported, even after what's happened, because fans want to see success but not at the risk of taking the club to the brink.

I hope we've bottomed out and can re-build.

Good summary. If Chansiri is as wealthy as he says he is, a modest financial donation (compared to what he's wasted to date) gives us a good chance of promotion and with some forward planning, a squad which could develop through the Championship, while not bound by championship FFP regulations meaning not trying to buy lots of players on promotion, falling foul of FFP again.

Now is a good time to reign in wages, but also invest in and develop some good young talent, given L1 regulations are maybe more flexible.

If only...... that is bordering on a plan

Really?

Yes totally agree mate. I find this enjoyment of other clubs suffering a bit odd. Particularly with what we have been though due to boardroom incompetence. Unless it’s dem blavdes of course then it’s game on
