Sheffield Wednesday players become free agents if not paid in full for TWO consecutive months

Recommended Posts

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has explained the new rules that determine what happens if players aren't paid properly...

"Under the changes to FIFA rules which came into play from June 2018, if you're not paid in full for two consecutive months, you can deem yourself as a free agent and walk away from the club with no arbitration"

"The club will not be able to get a transfer fee for you. It is further embarrassment, Wednesday fans want to forget about last season, they had a points deduction which ultimately resulted in their relegation.

"If the players want to walk away, the club would still be subject to sanction by the Football Association, according to the FIFA website, potentially by the EFL as well.

"The EFL charged Macclesfield Town with regular failure to pay wages and that resulted in relegation out of the EFL and the disruption of the club as a whole.

"It's a very sad state of affairs."

Thought it was reported today that we are now in the 3rd consecutive month of non-payments?

Why are they still here?

Seriously - if you wanna do the whole slating of local sports writers thing - go do it elsewhere. It's tedious as ********

Far from it - I am pointing out that one of the best respected current reporting outlets has recently stated that the vast majority of our players do not want to turn their back on our club and have actually stated that they disagree with anyone trying to go down such a route.

There was a thread on here about it but the comments in the thread seem to overlook this point in the main.

This thread you have started states that the players could walk away after 2 consecutive months of short/late payments. Another thread you started today states that we are now in the 3rd consecutive month of short/late payments.

Nobody has chosen to walk away yet even though this thread suggests they could have done a month ago.

The danger is that the players affected could well be onto their agents now to find them a new club

So even if the pay issue IS sorted it could be way too late now

Think (not any evidence) that players could legally walk away from Wednesday now but don't want to take such extreme actions straight away.

If they do stay and try and work with the club they are likely to get they full wages, if they walk out then good chance they may never see money owed.

It was too late last month according to this. Surely their agents have been looking for some time given how long off field issues have been rumbling on for.

The majority of the players are reported as being supportive/understanding of the owner on this issue.

No - it just meant that if they wanted to and were able they could start the process of leaving the club

There's not going to be a big happy conga out of the club front doors FFS

Which football club is being slated?

It’s definitely local.

There’s loads of slating of this club on OwlsTalk. (Big clue.)

That seems to be OK though; you just can’t slate journalists no matter what they say or don’t say.

Just seems an oddly strong stance on journalists when this particular local club and its owner aren’t afforded the same protection.

Ahhhhh

You're one of those people who think that criticism of the chairman is criticising the club

I see

Have a read of this -

I would think the players agents are very busy right now trying to find them new clubs. Don't forget, it's only a couple of weeks since the season finished. I would be shocked it quite a few don't walk out, but they won't do it until they have a deal sorted with another club

Chansiri rightly gets slated big time for his utter incompetence. The local hacks are just reporting what's happening.

Of course not, but as I said, I'd have expected they would have been looking for clubs for some time given what has gone on.

But that's different to the reports only yesterday that state that the majority of the players do not support this action and are taking the side of the owner in understanding this issue.

Seems to have been largely ignored.

You seem to be trying to imply that just because something is reported then it will be immediately actioned

Which isn't the case

Obviously
