I think the problem was that Channers thought we'd finished mid-table under Gray in spite of his tactics, rather than because of them.

The fans wanted entertainment, so he thought all he had to do was spend big on forwards and bingo, we'd go up.

The tragedy is that we never dared use our forward strength for fear of conceding goals, as we lacked a midfield enforcer.

Huddersfield was a fifty-fifty call tactically-speaking once Hooper got injured.

Tbf, he's probably one of the few examples of someone leaving us and really going from strength to strength.

Didn't work at Swansea, but he's done really well since going back to Portugal.

Clearly a talented coach and by a distance the best one we've had in the Chansiri era.

Yes, the big spending happened during his time here, but then it appears that quite a bit of that was out of his hands.

That first season was the best football I've seen at S6 in god knows how long. Really good side to watch.

And although it didn’t work out at Swansea,  his win percentage there was 32%,  considering the highly rated Potter at Brighton is at 25%, and Carlos took over at Swansea when they were bottom and 4 points adrift from safety, he didn’t do terrible.

Carlos tried to do a tactical masterclass in the playoffs against Huddersfield, and the injury to Wallace after 2 minutes - and lack of an adequate replacement for his position thanks to Chansiri and son - really cost us in that second leg.

Knowing what we do now about how the club is run under Chansiri,  starts to make you wonder if Carlos was a miracle worker rather than a bottler

We would have been in league one if he had stayed the season he left.

We were in total disarray and free fall.

Whatever has happened since doesn’t change that.

We were in disarray due to losing to United, a few fans thinking we should win every game (due to the previous 2 seasons) and a resultant meltdown.

The squad needed a refresh and that probably would have taken more than the few weeks that was given.

I think CC downfall coincided with DC going crazy and decided to buy players the manager didn’t want; probably at the whim of his son and agents.

The only manager in the history of football who's side scored 4 goals in a month where they didn't have a single shot on target allegedly.

They weren't own goals as well. One was a 30 yard beauty from Reach at Villa Park

All our managers seem to be excused as they work under DC, does the same not apply to Carlos? Who managed 6th and 4th place finishes. Yes perhaps a better squad then his successors, but still working under the constraints of that idiot chairman

Actually I think they had five shots on goal that month over four matches.

These aren't exactly parallel cases to Carvalhal, but they are relevant. Ranieri at Leicester. Pochettino at Spurs. Wilder. Dare one say it,  by 1983 Jack wasn't making as much impact as he'd done in his first years.

Someone can be a  good manager, a really good manager, and yet run out of steam at a club.

At the time, I was in favour of keeping him after the 2017 play off defeat. The in-season performance to come fourth was a bigger achievement than some fans allowed; and it seemed an interesting break with conventional wisdom.

That was wrong. He should have gone. But it's still unsurprising to see him doing well. And pleasing.

Think Carlos was slightly fortunate to come in at a time when he capitalised on foundations put in place by Stuart Gray and Manderic off the field.

The club in Chansiri first year got most of the recruitment right.

Goes without saying, he was fantastic for us and arguably best manager we've had in a long time.

That doesn't change the fact though that by the end of his time with us, it has gone stale and he was due replacing. Which was a shame, because had van Aken not been turned inside out by Duffy we'd have gone on to win that match, and who knows how the rest of that season would have followed.

Even the very next game, midweek at Birmingham in between the derbies with United and Leeds (which remember we won comfortably) we had a perfectly good goal ruled out then they went up the other end and scored, won the game 1-0.

CC's time probably had run out but we were unlucky in a few games which could have swung our momentum back in the right direction in that third season.

Done very well since going back to Portugal, many congratulations to him on the cup win.

if i was going to blow 100-200 million on transfer fees and massive contracts id want somebody experienced to tell be this wont end well if we dont get promotion , do you think wilder would have signed 32 year olds well past it on 3 year deals? he would have told the owner hang on this will end very badly . if a fool like me saw this coming 5 years ago then surely carlos should have said this is a very bad idea.  the club should have got the right man in 2015/16 then surely things wont have ended up so badly , remember he even was getting cooper to be our manager and carlos above him , chansiri even on day 1 had absolutely no idea . look at wolves the way they did it , when they came to our place i thought wow how professional they looked even before the game training/warming up
