Unsustainable Player Recruitment

Recommended Posts

It’s refreshing to see clubs like Barnsley able to operate sustainably and similarly Hull after going down too. It proved it can be done and hopefully gives our mob the evidence that you can sign lessor known, younger players and still compete without breaking the bank.

This is not a new thing for SWFC, Carbone, Di Canio, Sibon, De Bilde, Sinton, the list can go on.

We buy high and sell low (even free)

25 years of that will take its toll.

It's certainly something we've always struggled with.

I’ve been going for 28 years and the amount of players we’ve sold for substantial amounts can’t even be double figures

Off the top of my head

warhurst £3m

Thome £3m

Alexanderson £2.5m

Bougherra £3m

Brunt £3m

Joao £3m

Grant £2m

Struggling here

According to transfermarkt we sold darko kovacevic for 7.2m.

Your point still stands though!

One of our biggest failings and completely Chansiri's fault.

How on earth he thought we could aquire and stockpile players whilst ignoring good offers is not just not knowing football, its not knowing business.

And if we ever got to the stage where we had a good offer for one of Atts fave players what would he do now.....

I think we know.

The way Hull have responded does give hope that things can turn around quickly. They were in a sorry state towards the end of last season, getting hammered regularly and were the only team in the Championship to get less points than us in the second half of 2019/20.

It must be hard though when fans are saying don’t sell our best players; like Hirst in his day and Forestieri to some extent.

Although with Forestieri, he should have been sold after not wanting to play.

But Brentford and others seems to just find replaces after season

Anyone with half a brain could see that we had to get rid of FF after the Norwich game.

You don’t sell family

As much as this comes across as a joke it is probably a major reason why we are in such debt. That and signing two expensive strikers in the same mid-season transfer window when we didn't really need one.
