SallyCinnamon
Young Sheffield United striker (17) scores on his Premier League debut against Everton tonight. Any chance we can give our young lads more than 1 year extensions and a chance to earn us a bit of money? Or is that too sensible for you Dejphon?

Jim
The Academy has to be at the forefront of any recovery. DM has to be pro-active with regards to it as DJ was when he was manager here.

Night King
It’s not that we’re not giving them a chance they’re just not that good. We’re miles behind United and there academy. It’s no coincidence they keep brining talent through and we don’t.

S72 Owl
Hopefully we’ll see 2 or 3 academy players firmly involved in the first team squad next season. And hopefully a lot more involved in the papa John’s trophy.

Ronnie Starling
Our academy will never succeed whilever we have the mindset of those involved with it. The scouting is poor, the coaching is poor which results in poor players. The facilities don't help and certainly don't create an environment for success. Look at how successful United have been with their academy even when our first team has been performing better. For far too long we have just paid lip service and not put in the necessary people and resources to make it a success.

You are right about the facilities and we did pay little more than lip service to it for too long but it has improved in recent years. Barnsley & United have long since had a better reputation locally for their academy work and it will be difficult to turn that around.

Both leaving at the end of their contracts. One to Celtic and the other probably to a bigger and better club than Wednesday.

If they breakthrough another club will poach them and take them for minimal compensation. Just like with Shaw and Urhoghide. 1

Decent u18 campaigns doesn't translate into producing for the first team. We are a mile off and should either put more effort into it or close it down. It's more like a zombie academy existing for the benefit of providing opposition for other academies or somewhere for cast offs for players deemed not good enough for other clubs.

Hirst could have played for the first team by now, Clare would have got games for us had he stayed, Osaze was originally signed to the academy and got into the first team, Wildsmith and Dawson, Palmer, Penney, Hunt could still come through, Brennan is in the squad, Galvin broke through this season, Grant was sold for a fee. There aren't that many teams with a host of players in their first team that are products of their own under 18's teams. It isn't great but it is improving from what was complete neglect in previous eras. I don't think shutting it down is the answer given that more players have broken into the first team reckoning more recently.

Osaze was released by Wimbledon, if he is that good does the clb get any credit for picking him up when he had been cast off at lower league level or is he actually just not as good as you think? He has had 2 or 3 really good games and as many really bad ones. I agree the club has ultimately blundered though. He would be an asset to our squad in League One and could have been secured relatively cheaply compared to what we have thrown down the drain this season. There is of course the chance he could have turned us down anyway though even if we had offered him something decent.
Owl Be Back
We'll be lucky to field a first 11 and complete subs bench of seniors this coming season. Our recruitment over the summer will be shambolic at best.

Why just a one year extension in the summer for a player who’d already broke into the first team picture? What on earth is the point of that? Offer him 2/3 year deal and see how he develops. He won’t be asking for the world.
