Proper Wednesday pubs

Recommended Posts

After the sad loss of Forbesy it got me thinking about our pubs ,we were always on our own turf in the Blue Belle in town .

The stand out pub as far as i am concerned is the Woodbourne on Darnall.  Wednesday plaques and plates up around the pool table, upstairs flags and scarfs where we had disco's on fridays and people would sleep where ever they could and be still in there for the coach or vans for the away match the next day.

So did such as the South Kirby lads

( the original honalulu baby singers i think ? Except they sang where did you get that smile) have their own pub?

So let us know of your pub past or present cheers

Are these all long gone or are many set to start up again post lockdown? One consequence of being an out-of-town Owl is that I've done more boozing at away games than home ones!

Roebuck on Charles St had a Wednesday landlord at the time of the BDM. Whole pub was decked out in blue and white and the ******** taking over the result was legendary.

Shouted by the landlord at top of his voice:

"What did you order again, FOUR pints of bitter!"

"Last orders, it's FOUR minutes to..."

are two of the many comments I shall treasure to my dying day!
