Academy retained list

It's not even expensive in football terms to sign these lads up for longer contracts.  They are desperate to get re-signed, give them 2 years with an option of a third and the wages will be peanuts. If they don't make it what we lose is chicken feed compared to signing someone like Rhodes.

We could probably pay the whole of the u23 first team for what Rhodes earned in a year. If just one of these players makes the grade we can recover a large part of our outlay.

I'd like the club to be known for it's generocity to younger players breaking through so that they don't feel the need to move elsewhere. OK sign them for 2 years  +1 but if they start playing in the first team and doing well we should increase their pay rather than leave it at U23 rates, it wouldn't need to be a fortune, just showing willing to reward progress goes a long way.

Get the right reputation and promote good players and we will find it a lot easier to attract quality prospects in future years.

purely playing devils advocate but maybe these lads have been offered longer deals but given the poo show we are at the moment they've not signed them knowing the club will take up the one year option and are backing themselves to do what Shaw did

These lads will have advisors some may be the same as Shaw and not every single thing is as black and white as chansiri says yes or no although granted 95% is

Mentioned this in an earlier post, this has to change, ok activate the 1 year extensions but in pre season those that were expecting to feature in the first team get new contracts offered ASAP.

We wont tho this is DC he DOES NOT LEARN.

It’s farcical. 2 year deals minimum.

If you don’t think they’re going to develop or become an asset, why offer them a 1 year deal? Just release them. You obviously don’t value them highly enough to tie them down longer term. But if they do suddenly turn out to be a player (see Urhoghide) you risk losing them for nothing with other clubs circling like vultures.

He NEVER learns.

The last few U18/U23 matches gave us some good pointers.

Surprised the U18's haven't promoted any defenders. Thought Glaves was nailed on.

Read yesterday that he's got a trial at Brentford after being released by us.

Have a look at the above from @prowl that suggestion is spot on.... two year deal with the option of a third stops all the problems we have over and over.

Exactly, it's not rocket science or expensive. A 2 year deal, with a 1 yr option keeps players on their toes, allows time to develop and protects our assets.

With the money we've wasted on Kachunga's wages (for example) over the last year, that would probably fund 5 of these lads.

They can also build in review or break dates

Could also get them out on loan. It's false economy.

No wonder they leave.

David Beckham, Harry Kane and Jack Grealish all went out on loan as youngsters, why not our lads?

Players develop playing games. Id rather they make develop playing for someone else and come back a better player.

Hopefully the club has learnt their lessons with Hirst, Shaw and Uroghide. I mean that is still 3 times to learn the same lesson which is tin pot.

- It is insane to tie every U-18 and U-23 player on 1 year deal. As practice proved it serves only to lose them for peanuts if they prove any good.

- Letting Corey Glaves go is a joke, especially considering that only CB we have in our U-23 squad is Declan Thompson who will never make first team league appearance for us playing there. Someone said we had best defensive record in the league so not resigning keeper or any defenders made decision even weirder.

- Surprised we kept both Render and Jackson, especially considering that last U-23 game we had keeper on trial. Was sure that we let Render go.

- In my opinion Waldock is more talented as both Hunt and Dele Bashiru. Type of player who wins position and than unlike Pelupessey and Hutch looks to make forward pass or get ball forward himself if possible. certainly good enough for a first team spot next season.

This is a very good read how Dinamo Zagreb’s academy is run. Lots of very successful players from there. I can remember the stat, but I believe they want a very large % of players to be from their academy, then majority Croatian.

Their de facto owner is a convinced criminal who fled the country and who had Croatian version of FA in his palm. His brother who managed Dinamo is aloso convinced criminal. Due to their connections in FA and with other criminals running various management agencies they basically picked everyone worth picking from every clob in the country.

Though they scouting and pull can be impressive as they managed to bring in Dani Olmo from Barcelona's academy and Robbie Burton (who can't get game there) who was captain of Arsenal's U-23 side.

By no means an expert but, Waldock could play in the first team next season from what ive seen. Deep lying playmaker who likes a challenge but can pass too..... and i don't know if it will last but just recently towards the end of the season for the under 23s has found his scoring boots. If Luongo stays I would think him and Waldock would be good options for our DM role next year.... so that makes CB and DM two areas we dont need to recruit for.

Hagan is also someone who could get into the first team fold. Very highly rated winger who i think would have featured this season but he has had a lot of injuries which have held him back. Seemed to get fit and playing well towards the end of the season so with a good pre season I could see him being involved too.

Waldock been scoring more because he's been playing further forward in Midfield.
