Pound for pound you can argue he has been Wednesdays worst ever signing, however I hope he starts against Derby.

I’d argue he is in the Silver Medal position for that right now.

Almen Abdi is in the Gold Medal position and has lapped the rest of the field.

But your last point is key. He’s our best, indeed only, striker. Must start. Must play 95 minutes.

Rhodes , along with the rest who claim to be attacking players ,is poor .

Best of this poor bunch is Windass so has to start .

You can than throw in anyone to partner him ,they are all ineffective . As a last throw ,I'd say to Dunkley get in there and knock a few defenders about for a bit and see if that opens things up  for our goal poachers .

Maybe the reason he doesn't start is he can't play for 90 minutes??

Seriously,  when was the last time he started a game and saw it through to the end?

Can’t disagree.

I said weeks ago it should be Windass and Rhodes every match with Patterson arriving late behind

Just awful coaching why they’ve decided to split it up

It may be me, but the system / style Moore is trying to incorporate seems to be built around a mobile striker up top with a bit of pace, with the others supporting from out wide or midfield.

Rhodes lack of mobility and pace may play a factor in his choice, he also knows he's not going to be here next year which if your trying to tactically educate players on your new system /style, it moves players who won't be here down the pecking order...

Though it's a must win, if toy town don't win their game in hand, so for me you pick your best 11 to try beat Derby.

Don’t cheat.

Try to think about it before you look at the answer (in bold) below.

Question - when did we last win a game without Rhodes in the starting line-up?

Answer - 2nd February, 20 games ago, Bournemouth away.

Without Rhodes P8. W0. D2. L6 (draws Forest and Bristol C)
With Rhodes P11. W4. D1. L6

With Rhodes starting we don’t become Brazil, but without him we do become Barnstoneworth.

Moore clearly thinks we are a better side without Rhodes. He is wrong.

If you’ve got eyes you can see on the pitch that simply isn’t true. If you’ve got eyes and half a brain you can see from our results that simply isn’t true.

If we are to beat Derby we cannot field a starting Xl proven it can’t win. Rhodes just has to start.

Nice to have a Rhodes thread for one last time!

Can’t quite believe his contract is up and he will be off. Presumably to score 25+ goals for some other club.
Come on Jordan lad. Let’s have a hat trick for the Massive on your way out of the club!

Our best starting attacking partnership this season has been Rhodes and Windass

W4 D2 L4 and 9 goals between them.

Whilst I’ve been hugely critical of Rhodes over the last 4.5 years, I would absolutely start him alongside windass in a 3-5-2. It’s a must win game and we need to go with our best team and formation ffs.

But in all 3 games we have won under Moore, Rhodes has started and scored 3 goals.

Moore is barmy if he doesn't see that is the way to go.

For the financial cost and expectations the fans had when we signed him, I don’t see how anyone can say Rhodes isn’t our worst ever signing.

But who is gonna care if Rotherham drop points and he scores a winner against Derby.

I don't think it's a case of him not being able to last 90 mins. It seems to be if he's not scored after 60-70 mins, the manager has subbed him for someone less likely to score such as Kachunga.

The last game he was on for the full 90 mins was Watford away. Before that Barnsley away when he scored 2.

What's  noticeable is several times the result took a turn for the worse after he was subbed off.

Games when he's started but been subbed.

Cardiff away, scored subbed 69 mins for Reach. Won 2-0.

Watford home, subbed 64 mins for Kachunga

0-0.

Swansea away, we were leading 1-0 when he was subbed on 56 mins for Kachunga, went on to draw 1-1.

Wycombe home, scored and subbed on 81 mins for Kachunga, won 2-0.

Stoke away, 0-0 When he was subbed 65 mins for Kachunga, lost 1-0.

Norwich home, scored and drawing 1-1 when subbed 68 mins for Marriott, lost 1-2.

Huddersfield home, leading 1-0 When subbed on 61 mins for Paterson, drew 1-1.

Cardiff home, scored subbed on 82 mins at

5-0 for Green.

QPR away, losing 3-1 When subbed on 71 mins for Green, lost 4-1.

Swansea home, losing

1-0 When subbed on 71 mins for Paterson, lost 2-0.

Blackburn home, leading 1-0, subbed on 75 mins for Paterson, won 1-0.

We lose our shape and our focal point when he’s subbed (and when he starts on the bench). Plus, if he’s not on the field it means either Paterson or Windass play striker, which is not their role.

Not even close to Abdi.

2 seasons.

12 starts.
8 on as sub.

1 goal.

No assists

£3m fee

Big wage

Makes Rhodes look like Value McValueface.

If we're to have any chance against Derby Rhodes/Windass must be installed.

We have to stop 'tinkering'.

Now is not the time to be taking Palmer out of his RWB position when he's just put together his best run of form in years.

Now is not the time to start the inverted wingers nonsense again.

Now is not the time to start fannying with Paterson at RWB when his best perfromances have come as the extra man in midfield.

Now is not the time to have Joey and Bannan alone in the middle when we know a two in there pushes Bannan 20 yards deeper than where he;s most effective.

Don't tinker Darren!

Get them back where they all do their best work

Now is not the time for rocket science.

This is our best team by miles.

Actually the only half decent team we’ve got.

Only because Dawson is injured like.....

Spoiler

You’re comparing an injury prone midfielder who cost 3m with a striker that cost 10m on something like 50 grand a week, who many thought was the missing piece to the puzzle that we needed to get promoted, and his most memorable moments with us that season are when he missed a penalty and then refused to take one. You actually think it’s not even close that Abdi was a worse signing?

I love how our fans call other teams tinpot yet say we are MASSIVE.

We’ve spent a few bob, a good few bob, on players that never came off.

Rhodes is our record signing.  Yes, there are is his wages, but look at comparable others.......

The true fault is the modern game.

Average players, overvalued, overpaid,  always a gamble.

Maybe one for the quiet summer days on here to ask who Owlstalk thinks our worst ever signing was.. if Rhodes keeps us up I don’t think as many will vote for him but if he doesn’t I think he will win, but sure Abdi will get a lot of votes

Abdi was a great signing at the time though on paper.

There is a huge problem with injuries at this club.

Luongo and Iorfa (a bit different) would have made a massive difference to this team.
