They never learn

They waltz straight into the Prem on what grounds? Makes a mockery out of teams like ourselves Forest, Middlesbrough etc who have been trying to get back there.

We stopped the Super League saying it would ruin the domestic leagues etc but then we are willing to ruin someone else's League to take the two biggest clubs from them again for profit.

Imagine the fan violence as well.

Pure hypocrisy, It absolutely stinks.

Florentino Perez really is an odious little turd:

“It cannot be that in England, the six lose money and 14 make money. In Spain the top three lose money, and the others make money. That can’t continue; it is the rich are those who are losing money.”

Think 90% of football clubs in England lose money.

Stop spending £103m on Eden Hazard then! It's not hard is it?!

I just saw Perez described as the Trump of football and it’s quite accurate - dodgy property deals, completely detached from reality and doesn’t take any responsibility for his own failings

I’d rather do without all the sectarian crap that comes with them both. It’d bring out the worst in English clubs’ fans too

No, there would be carnage and why should they be fast tracked into the PL ahead of Championship teams?

You also have to think about if Scotland leaves the UK which looks likely at some point. They would then have to leave the EPL.

Fully agree. Much rather them than some of the southern softies like Bournemouth, Brighton, Reading, Norwich etc.

You two oppose the super league, right?

But you'd be all for having the two Scottish giants parachuted into our league at the expense of other English sides, whilst also destroying the SPL in the process.

Amazing.

But they have broken the rules. They signed proper contracts to join an alternative ungoverned league (ungoverned by FIFA, UEFA, FA that is). That is a clear breach of the rules. It is also an implicit resignation from the EPL. If they want to, the football authorities could have a field day with this, but doubtless it will just be a slap on the wrist nothing else.

For things to really change, it requires proper and strong government intervention in terms of:

  1. Proper involvement of fans both at board level and in terms of club ownership
  2. A mechanism (ironically like they have in the US) to force unscrupulous/incompetent owners to sell
  3. A salary cap determined for each division (max in EPL at 50k per week -  that's 2.6 million per year)
  4. Re-introduction of safe standing
  5. A ceiling set on ticket prices by league to stop pricing fans out of the game
  6. Return of far more games to terrestrial TV
  7. An independent regulatory body directly responsible for oversight
  8. A mechanism to transfer ownership of the clubs to the fans (ultimate aim for fans to have a minimum 51% stake)
  9. A regular review of the game by the independent regulator and fans representative bodies every 5 years
  10. All clubs and their grounds to be classed as entities of cultural and historical significance to give some protection

Any government (or party) that would be prepared to take such steps (even half of them) would be on an absolute winner right now. For that reason I believe it would get total cross party political support so no one party can claim the sole credit for it.

There will never be a better opportunity to force change on the game.

A way has to be found to give the "people's game" back to the people no matter what it takes.

Is that fact or assumption? Seen this over the last twenty-four hours but no one has actually stipulated which rule it is.

This British Super League plan also involves reducing the PL to 18. Less spaces to get in, more money going around a smaller group. Becomes an even more closed league than it already is (pretty likely this season is the first ever the 3 relegated teams go straight back)

Every time this guy opens his mouth, he digs the project a little further into its grave.  He's like the Chansiri of Public Relations.

He must realise how much of a bellend constantly going on about the 'important clubs' and moaning about how his club only has most of the money instead of all the money makes him sound.  It's almost like he is deliberately trolling the 'legacy fans'.

Maybe he really is that un-self-aware.

Absolute pigs in trough.

Entrusting the PL to be the leading light on this is a bit like asking Chansiri to file your accounts for you.

I see that David Alaba has agreed to sign cash stricken Real Madrid. Funny that.

If they want to play then somehow they should get in by merit. Why not invite the rest of the rebels whilst there at it?  As you say why do they get to leap frog over the Championship clubs.  Some who have the potential to be very big clubs if they reached the Premier.

To be fair a lot of Scottish football fans would be just as happy to see them go as we were at the prospect of our Great Reset.

But yeah, this will never happen.  The ESL reaction has made it impossible.

Talk of reducing the PL to 18 teams too.

The so called big 6 should but won’t be punished via a points deduction if they’ve broken the rules . The owners of Liverpool , Man City and Chelsea have all invested heavily and in recent times won the trophies which they and there fans rightfully celebrated . If the the owners have broken the rules they and the fans should take the punishments as well. Also what a season it would be if these teams had to make up a 6 point deduction. The premier league , sky , bt etc want entertainment and drama in football . This is a chance to create some and punish the fat cat owners.

F@cking Perez is mental. Here’s an idea, if your club is losing money cut costs and run it properly. Bleating on that without this deal you won’t be able to sign Mbappe or Haaland......priceless. The guy lives in a bubble.

Would they though? You'd probably end up with the title shared between Aberdeen and the Edinburgh clubs every season, but with less Uefa coefficient they'd deteriate to an even worse state in Europe, losing slots and be down to 2 clubs in the first Qualifying round. So what's in it for the rest?

Plus, the teams only sell out home fans when an old firm comes to play. Sky's payment is dependent on 4 old firm matches a season. It'd be financial suicide for the rest of the league.
