BREAKING - Sheffield Wednesday under ANOTHER transfer embargo

People have said this for years, yet the only club who has gone under is Bury.

It actually works. The only issue I have with it is the unfair advantage it gives clubs with parachute payments.

Why does it work? Bury went under during FFP. How many clubs went under before FFP?

10 clubs all submit late accounts due to covid. Probably all following the same rule Coventry did.

Nothing to really worry about here. EFL will probably amend their rules in due course to help out as its almost half the clubs in the Championship with the same issue. Or you would like to think they would anyway.

The more concerning thing for me is this is yet another embargo under the current owner. I reckon this’ll be the third or fourth time this has happened.

Going forward with a squad rebuild needed in the summer, this is very worrying as the club appears to be continually financially mismanaged.

Mismanaged to some extent, but these rules are a nonsense.

Chansiri had the money to spend, but couldn't spend it as he wanted.

Unlike the parachute clubs, who are free to spend their money as they like.

It is the parachute clubs which are causing all these problems.

There's an absolute distinction between a non-parachute club spending the money it has, and one borrowing heavily in a bid to reach the promised land.

As Martin Samuel said of us, the EFL were punishing ambition.

It's high time that the bigger Championship clubs collaborated and told the EFL that enough is enough.

If they want a league, then they'd better scrap all this.

When its 10 clubs you do think its the fault of the EFL not being flexible with the rules especially in the current circumstances.

But it is another thing to add to this list though.

Other clubs are quick to get they PR people to put out statement to preempt any criticism but ours are silent again.

In response to an article published by a newspaper this morning, Luton Town Football Club has issued the following response:

Our first embargo for a decade is simply an anomaly brought about by an unsynchronised timing of financial reports due to the pandemic.

The Club’s 2019/20 accounts, whilst finalised, have yet to be signed off by our auditors which will be done well before the statutory deadline.

Given the exceptionally difficult operating environment caused by the pandemic and the requirement to continue to play “behind closed doors”, financial forecasts have rightly been scrutinised much more thoroughly, and Companies House provided an extension of the statutory filing deadline to June to create sufficient time to complete this additional work accurately. Indeed, the club will publish unqualified accounts before the end of April.

However, EFL rules couldn't be adjusted to meet the Companies House extension and require that signed accounts still needed to be submitted in March, which the club was unable to achieve. The matter will be resolved as our auditors conclude the report in the next couple of weeks.

We would like to reassure all of our supporters that this situation will not affect any of the Club’s plans for the summer transfer window, which does not open until the end of the current season, and makes no difference to the day-to-day running of the Club currently.

There is certainly no 'financial Armageddon', as the article's headline sensationally claims, at Kenilworth Road.

No - the accounts due in April ARE for the previous year

Why the hell can't the club make a statement? The EFL clearly have rules about whether they are allowed to make an announcement.

My post is not really aimed at DC because quite frankly it's become that normal that something like this hits our club on a monthly basis that it doesn't amaze me anymore, but I do take you point....the EFL however are a joke.

The EFL STRIKES AGAIN. Do they have any idea what damage these Draconian sanctions course , and do they even care.

Why don't  they go after the perpetrators / rule breakers. ?

Would you expect a family member to be penalised for your wrong doing ?

Are they so devoid of ideas that they need to penalise the fan base and the players for something they have no control over. ?

We have seen this happen time and time again, do they have any imagination ? Time they had a major re think.
