He did plenty of checks on the present owner.

The checks he did was to make sure he had funds to pay what he agreed between Chansiri and himself.

6 years down the line the state of the club is no concern of his.

Manderic's checks were show me the money for the sale. Nothing else mattered.

Had he still been in charge now, where would we be? I liked him a lot, got rid of Megson at the right time, but he sold out too early without doing any back ground checks on the present regime.

That was his thing, he like taking clubs that were in trouble, turning them around and selling them on at a small profit..

Don't forget, at the end of his tenure, there were fans calling for him to go, because he would not spend big money.

Gaydamak was the one who let Redkanpp spunk loads of money on players

Mandaric sold them in 2006, they had 4 years of spunking money up the wall under the russian before they went into admin

Sounds familiar. Wonder who has got that ridiculous Manderic banner!

It sounds familiar that two clubs he sold were mismanaged beyond belief?

If you're blaming Milan for the failures of Portsmouth and Wednesday years after he left, then surely you must also be congratulating him for being the mastermind behind the most improbable Premier League win since the Premier league began, no?

MM was under no obligation to do any background checks on the present regime. He was certainly not to know that DC would turn out to be such a complete muppet.

Just hit and miss who ever Manderic or 99% of owners sell on to.

Leicester and Man City got the good ones while other clubs got the s*****y end of the stick.

I’m not sure he made a profit.. paid £7m for us then lost £6m or so a season for 4+ years and then sold us for about £30m. That sounds like about breaking even to me

He also can’t be blamed for this mess. Even if he did his due diligence all he would have checked was that DC had the money. DC has put more than enough money in to this club for it to have been a success, lack of funds wasn’t the issue. It’s how it’s been spent that’s the problem.. and nobody could know in advance, other than DC, that this is how it would turn out

You can’t blame him for the current mess. He has a responsibility to make sure they’re not a total crook and of course have the ability to pay him. With the investment we had from Chansiri initially, that kind of proves what ever assurances Mandaric might have made before selling.

I’ll be honest, Mandaric is the best owner we’ve had in my lifetime. Found us in an absolute state, made progress in every season under his tenure and left a decent side. Above everything he knew how to run a football club. Chansiri doesn’t have the first clue.

if he was still here, we’d be much more stable financially, he’d have been slated for not having much ambition but we’d still likely finish mid table, possibly with a play-off push if we got lucky with a decent up and coming manager (like Barnsley have).

There's a whole mountain of this kind of poo spouted by idiots about Mandaric, his time here, and his sale of the club.

The club was losing about £5m a year under MM, which is peanuts compared to now.

He stabilised the club. Resolved the disparate shareholding of the club that meant 30% if the shares were completely inactive and that just half a dozen shareholders could run the club into the ground (as the previous directors did).

He invested into the Academy and brought in Dean Ramsdale (now at Man City) to develop it (who also brought in quality staff like Neil Thompson who had developed Leeds United Academy and £millions of high quality youth players). That Academy programme developed all of the young players we've seen coming through in recent seasons.

He brought in a Chief Executive to run the club in Paul Aldridge, and other high quality staff to develop the club commercially like Paul Bell (delivered Leeds best ever commercial results for 4 years before joining Wednesday, and is now back there) and Joe Palmer (now CEO at AFC Wimbledon and heavily involved in their stadium development).

Wednesday finished every single season higher in the League under Mandaric too.

When the club was sold to the current clown Paul Aldridge was left in role for a year to provide guidance but never used. Along with the implementation of the team to advise on team mates (the first member of which resigned after 2 weeks)... Instead the Chairman relied on people like Paxo and Pete Piempongsant, with all their collective years of experience in British football.

Mandaric's time at Hillsborough wasnt perfect. I was particularly disturbed about the kind of people he was borrowing money from to prop us up. And the charges on the ground to support them. Without a doubt they were exactly the kind of people we don't want to be associated with.

But we followed the EFL rules, no embargoes, no points deductions, we didn't sell the stadium, we paid the players and built a solid squad.

The kind of misinformed bull in this thread is disrespectful to someone we should all quite rightly be grateful to fit doing his bit. And the idiot he sold to has put LOADS of money into Wednesday. Its not Milan's fault he didn't have a clue what he was spending it on

Mandaric was a businessman, in it for the money. He saved us when we needed saving. It wasn't altruistic, he bought us not because of who we were but because he got us at a knock down price.

Fans loved him because he knew exactly what strings to pull to get them on side. It was just flannel. He held the purse strings very tight and he would sell any player if he got a profit out of it.

When he sold us he was only interested in turning a profit, nothing more. I've nothing against him,  he wasn't what he portrayed himself to be but at the time our interests were aligned so it worked ok. I just don't get the love in some fans have with him.

Absolutely right

Mixed him up with John Redgate (who was appointed same day as Paul Bell) and is still at the club. And an outstanding finance guy.
