Had he still been in charge now, where would we be? I liked him a lot, got rid of Megson at the right time, but he sold out too early without doing any back ground checks on the present regime.

He didn’t do any? 😂

He did plenty of checks on the present owner.

The checks he did was to make sure he had funds to pay what he agreed between Chansiri and himself.

6 years down the line the state of the club is no concern of his.

Yep that's all he was bothered about, especially after he failed to check out Mammadov's ability to pay.

I think he gave DC his Portsmouth blue print of how to run a football club; spend money on players that will last 2-3 season and then spiral into disarray.

The Redknapp years equate to our Carlos  years; but on less of a budget and without the superstars Portsmouth had.

Portsmouth light

Gaydamak was the one who let Redkanpp spunk loads of money on players

Mandaric sold them in 2006, they had 4 years of spunking money up the wall under the russian before they went into admin

I don't think Manderic was a saint or a sinner.

Wednesday and Manderic both did ok out of his 5 years at the club.

The club got back in the Championship and were on a much more financially even keel when he left.

Manderic had 5 years of fun as Chairman and made a decent profit.

By the end things had gone slightly stale and needed fresh ideas and investment.

Was always going to be a bit of a lottery who took over then.
Chansiri had the resources to take us on to the next level but didn't have the nous once his initial splurge on players didn't work out.

People hold Mandaric up like some saint. he isn't that. He looked after his own interests which coincided with ours. Then he made a massive sum of money off doing so and buggered off. He doesnt give a flying fookle about Sheffield Wednesday. He's just better than what we have now, who dont seem to realise that running the club well is better for him as well as the club.

Remember Ken bates wanted in before Mandaric, that would have been worse

By the time MM sold the club he didn’t want to spend any more. We had to sell Antonio for a pittance just to buy Stevie May...we wouldn’t have moved forward.

At that point we just needed a bit of cash to build on some really good foundations. But the inability to plan ahead and deal with FFP has undone everything.

MM wouldnt have been able to predict that. He sold to someone very wealthy and who is still bankrolling the club even if his methods are criticised. Better than selling to someone with no money like Mammadov or the Pompey owners.

He did exactly what he told us he would do

he bought us, stabilised us, and then sold us to some one with money,

how many on here thought it was a bad idea?

How could anyone know we were bought by someone who doesn't like to take advice, and keeps doing the same thing wrong all all time

Absolutely correct.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it. We came within 90 minutes of promotion, and even after the loss to Hull we were all optimistic.  Neither MM nor the fans could foresee the mess Mr C has made.

Spot on.

Blaiming MM for anything DC has done  would be like buying a car, driving it like a ******** and then blaming the previous owner when you wrapped it round a lamp post

There was nothing wrong with Mandaric. He didn't milk the club. He ran it well, but he didn't do so cos he loved us. He did so because if he could get us into a stable state more people would want to buy us and he could make a massive profit.

We were an absolute mess at the point Mandaric took over.  We were in League 1, unable to make payroll, with Alan Irvine in charge of the team.  Off the field we had a combination of Nick Parker and Howard Wilkinson trying and failing to manage the thing, and the old guard lingering around looking after their own interests.  HMRC had us in court for unpaid taxes.  Years of mismanagement and off field chaos had just all come at once and wanted their cheques cashed.

When MM left we were in the league above, a stable mid table Championship team with a much improved squad built around a very solid spine of Westwood, Lees, Loovens, Lee, Semedo and Nuhiu, and a good coach in Stuart Gray.  The messy shares issue had been resolved, debts repaid or written off.

Job done.

You do know why he bought us don’t you?

He was more than happy to sell us to Usmanov, only reason he didn’t is cus his assets were frozen when he was locked up!!!
