To be honest that’s awful. Gambling is like drinking. Some people can have a bit of a laugh with it and keep it under control but it eats other people alive.
Wonder if he’d of get better help if he’d been a modern footballer?

You’ve got to want it in the first place though and if he’s happy clicking away and doesn’t think he’s doing anything wrong then he’s not ready to be helped yet I’m afraid

Sadly that’s where the similarities end.

what a player Gary Shelton was!

Gary Shelton was one of my favourite players of the early and mid 80's. Like you say a great player all over the pitch, never stopped running and used to score a few goals.

I remember seeing him score against us at Villa Park in a cup match. A great signing for us.

I was at St.James Park to see him score this great goal when we beat Newcastle 1-0 in our promotion season 1983-84. (goal at 1 min 25 sec).

Just thinking about it. It’s unbelievable that a player of the ability of Sterland, with the career he had didn’t make enough from the game to retire a millionaire. How times have changed!

True

Sometimes now kids are millionaires before they’ve even made 20 senior appearances at some clubs

If the posts about his habits are correct then he is probably lucky that he didn't make more money...at least he has a limiter

My first thought was Trevor Matthewson.

Difficult to get a picture when he was young.

The one below is when he played for Birmingham City.

God I remember that goal like yesterday

Such a shame we lost out on the title to Chelsea on goal difference!
