PL Interest in Urhoghide

Recommended Posts

Another sellable asset leaves the club for free (sorry a small amount of compensation) because we refused to show any faith in the lad and only offered a one year extension in 2020 despite him being part of sides that kept clean sheets in wins away at Brighton and Leeds previously.

We're absolutely clueless, what harm does it do giving a 19 year old that has showed he can do it something more than a one year deal??

Are Bullen, Thompson etc, recommending to Chansiri to give them new contracts, or longer ones, as they have good potential? I don't see how DC is in a place to give youngsters new contracts when he is probably not watching them train/play in the u23's. He really should just give somebody else the responsibility to sort contracts out with players/youngsters, hopefully that person will be Moore.

i very much doubt moore will have any involvement when it comes to dealing with contracts .....

When you are a badly run club your best assets leave for nothing. No player in their right mind would want to be here next season if they have other offers. For once we have some young talent... and we end up just giving it away. We will be full of journeymen next season as we don’t have a pot to wee in. The scraping of the barrel after everyone else

Darren Moore has a really difficult job ahead of him... we are going to get worse before we get better. I hope we stick with him regardless

Already losing Shaw. If Urhoghide walks too, Chansiri should hang his head in shame for how he’s handled contractual situations.

He should hang his head in shame for the way he's handled every aspect of the business from 2016 onwards.

Then leave.

Another horrific move by the club

Worth noting that most wanted him sold/released after he was sent off last year, we really need to start having more patience with youngsters

I'm not sure about most, there is an element that don't appreciate players who are proactive in trying to break up play. He played well then got mugged by a little gamesmanship  from an experienced player as has Iorfa.  I watched him in the reserves when he got sent off against Bolton he was clearly the player on our side that put the most effort in and although playing right back he managed to upset the big Bolton forward who was having a good time against our centre backs.

I would much prefer players who try to win the ball back, the likes of Iorfa, Shaw, Hutchinson and Urhoghide   than the passives like Reach Palmer and to an extent Lees.

Just had my attention drawn to the latest Guardian football podcast. They discuss Darren Moore leaving Doncaster to join us. The consensus was that he’d made a huge mistake as we're such a mess. But what really was interesting was a story that we’d approached a manager before appointing Pulis. He turned us down and our response was “ok, but do you know of any strikers or left-backs we could sign”.

I don't know how long their contracts are but Galvin and Brennan look worth holding on to. Make sure they are on 2 year contracts with an option on a third year.

Get in at the first glimmer of quality and it doesn't cost much in wages, wait until they have played 10 games and done well and you might have to pay much more.

For me, everyone contract given to our promising younger players needs to be 1 or 2 years with a 1 year option in the club's favour.

Both Shaw and Urhoghide would have signed these deals at the point that they were handed out and the club would have been protected now.

The sheer incompetence of those running this club is frankly astounding.

Now I don’t know an awful lot about contracts, but plenty of clubs seem to sign players to deals where the club have an option to extend for a further period.  Seem to recall Man Utd taking up that option on Jesse Lingard before he went out on loan to West Ham (who will now have to pay a sizeable fee if they want to sign him in the summer).  Shouldn’t we be adopting a similar approach with promising young players?

I think some of what gets said about Urgohide is overblown. He's got some talent there, but he's very raw in areas. He could go on to have a good career, he might not.

I.e. some saying he's currently better than Lees etc just isn't right. He might turn out to be, he might not turn out to be.

He may find a decent or good career working in a back 3, but if teams revert back to 4 at the back I think he's not as well suited in comparison to i.e. bigger centre halves or more mobile/quicker specialist full backs.

Whats not up for debate though is the 'will he/wont he' make the grade conversation should be discovered at SWFC, not hoping it doesn't bite us in the backside yet again as he's moved on.

The fact its likely to not is yet another case of mismanagement.

SORT IT OUT DC. Employ someone who knows what to do and manage the academy route.

"Contracts... not my area.  That’s something that the chairman and money people at the football club will deal with....... the people at this football club have decided that Barry, Reach and Tom, who are all out of contract, need to have their contracts discussed. "

Won’t be long before the “he shouldn’t be playing for us the” contingent start to weigh in.  Uroghide, like Shaw, should be in our team for the rest of the season. They show fight and can use the ball well. Our priority on the field is the here and now.  Off the field is another matter altogether.  I hope Moore, in his conversations with DC let’s him know how much we are getting wrong with these young players

Are you suggesting we can't pin this on Pulis, Monk, or Bruce?

Because I'm not having that!
