Could we redevelop Hillsborough for the 2030 World Cup?

There is a rule (or was, still don't know if it still is) that only one city can have 2 stadiums hosting games.

So if you had Wembley and Tottenham's stadium then you couldn't have Old Trafford and the Etihad.

Stadiums must also have minimum of 40,000 seats and that rises to 60,000 for quarter finals and semi final. Final and opening ceremony must be 80,000

Its also a UK & Ireland bid

Wembley

Tottenham Stadium or Twickenham

Old Trafford

St James Park

St Mary's (If expanded)

Villa Park

Anfield

Stadium of Light

Hampden

Celtic Park

Millennium stadium

Aviva

stadium of light will b e a no no, Sunderland's a poo hole.

You'll have places like Brighton, Forest will have redeveloped by then. Everton will have a new ground. And you'll have one at least in Yorkshire.

We had a Chairman at time who could see prestige having World Cup or Euros games could bring to city and the club.

Going back even though Dave Richards is not well thought of now I think he did see as an honour having Euro 96 games and that it was good for Sheffield.

Chansiri not bothered about 1 little bit about Sheffield or prestige of the club.

I think with Chansiri as Chairman it's a non starter.

You don't think Chansiri would find it prestigious to have the biggest football tournament in the the world included at a stadium He owns?

If it come to Sheffield it goes to the Lane. Premiership standard, premier league club. Take off the blue n white tinted specs. It makes sense.

Talking 2030 mate, their not a prem club in 3 month.

Why exactly does Elland Rd get a mention ?

Because Leeds is seen as a much more modern and fashionable city than Sheffield..but the ground is a shocker tbh

Maybe but I dont think he has the

nous to put everything together to get something like this on.

The 150 Year Celebrations were a bit of a farce and hosting world Cup games is 100 times more complicated.

Will never happen. There's a permanent black cloud over Hillsborough ever since, it would upset the scousers and all the plastic Liverpool fans in the media /High positions that grew up in the rush Dalglish when they won everything.

I don't think that would be an issue. It wasn't 7 years after the disaster when we were picked for the Euros.

It's just that the ground is old and knackered, would need a complete rebuild.

I meant facility wise. Not size.

Why bother making the extra 10k seats usable? We ain't filling Hilsborough in league one. Maybe for 1 or 2 freak games where we clinch promotion or something. Not worth the expense when we can't even pay the staff now.

Agree it’s not top of the priorities but we need to come away from the view of we’ll sort it when we get to the premier league.

It’ll never get sorted if we’re waiting for that and there’s plenty of clubs in the championship and lower leagues with modern grounds.

It’s a bit of pointless discussion at the minute anyway because Chansiri doesn’t look to have any plans with the ground and we won’t be selected as part of any World Cup bid

no way they'll let football be played at Croke Park

Don't see why not, Ireland played loads of games there while the Aviva was being built.

Sure there were quite a few six nations rugby games played as well.

If it's a joint bid can see them putting both Croke Park and Aviva forward.
