We don’t have anyone who can play the lone striker role (please don’t say Paterson)

But we do! The old school 1 striker up top to hold up and draw fouls is such a misconception to how the formation actually plays.

KW

Penney/Osaze

Dunkley

Lees

Palmer

Shaw/Hutch

Bannan/Brown/Luongo

Reach/Marriott
Brown

Harris/Windass/Kach

Rhodes/Windass/Paterson

For me if we played 4231 the first team picks itself! As long as we stop trying to desperately force it long every possession DM can get our midfield firing again and we may finally see some quality chances for Rhodes to polish off! Have faith!

Doesn’t matter what formation he plays with Wildsmith in the net.

Reach being a cat

Pelupussy no brain

could go on

Hutch being crap

Westy always injured

Lees as timid as a mouse

Borner needs to play.

He's our best defender with the ball.

He's in form too.

Don’t think it will take him long to realise people like Kachunga, Pelupessy and Harris aren’t up to it and we need a new number one especially if Westwood is out. Hope Rhodes gets to start the majority of games as well.

FML the amount of people trying to shoe horn Bannan into the side somewhere. STOP IT!

The 1st thing Moore should do is work out where the goals are going to come from, and play those players. And that does not include Bannan or Harris in any way, shape, or form.

Goalie - who cares, they are all garbage.

CBs - Borner and Hutch, if we are playing the ball out from the back.

FBs - Penney and Osaze.

The 2 - Luongo and Shaw, giving energy and mobility with defensive awareness. Both can chip in with goals too.

The 3 - biggest problem is the number 10 position, but would have to be Brown. Windlass on right, Green or dare I saw it Reach on left. 3 out of those 4 won't contribute enough goals, but should do OK.

Striker - Rhodes or Patterson.

Its not great, but its the best chance we have of scoring goals. Scoring goals will win games. Winning games will win points. Winning points could save us from relegation.

If fit

                           Westwood

palmer      Lees.         Dunkley.           Uroghide

                  Hutchinson bannan

green./ Harris      Paterson                    Reach

                     Windass/ Rhodes

couple I couldn’t call in green or Harris  and Rhodes or windass

think the formation could work even though I don’t like bannan be as far back if his role was more fluid I’d be ok

also I don’t like playing reach central but he could play there giving more pace out wide

I’ve had a look at all of the suggested lineups on here and don’t think it will be easy to play his desired formation right away. I just don’t think we have the personnel.
Can’t wait to see what happens on Wednesday though and up until this AM I was dreading it so that’s some good news right away!

Racing certainty that Moore will look to start Brown and Rhodes more often than not given his comments today.

Palmer            Lees     Borner            Penney

                      Hutch          Shaw

Harris                  Bannan                Reach

                             Windass

Loads of options in loads of positions. CB I'd be tempted to put Hutch in there for Lees, but Lees has done little wrong recently.  Uroghide, unlucky to not be in there too.

Pelepussy and Luongo both options for the defensive midfielder roles.

Harris, Green, Reach, Kachunga, even Penney all options for the winger/inside forward positions.

Windass, Rhodes and Patterson "could" all suit playing up top as long as others get in and around them.  Gives us different ways of playing at center forward.

Bannan finally gets to play somewhere where he can break teams down in the last third.  Also option of playing Brown in there too.  And possibly young Hunt.

I kinda like it.  Might encourage us to get the ball wide and get it in the box too.

Considering that most of the positive play in the last four or five years has run through Bannan in some way, I'm not sure that plan is going to work out.

Strikers need more help with service, not less.  I'm not sure how benching the most important playmaker in the side is going to help with that.

For what it's worth, I think we've already seen that an isolated striker doesn't work with the current lineup - and it demonstrably hasn't worked for Rhodes here.
I think we'd be in for two months of slog trying to shoe horn it in and make it work.

The fact we don't have a LB kills any formation we try. It’s absolutely criminal not to have a true LB at the start of the season.

It runs through him because he is the central midfielder in  442 or 532. It has to go through him. But the point is that we just don't create anywhere near enough, because of him.

People rattle on about him being our top creative player. But is he? Really? Maybe, but only because he is seemingly undroppable for some reason, and takes all set pieces.

We need an improvement on this player. We need a central midfielder who can really affect the game.

And people suggesting he be a left winger in a 4231 is as laughable as it is scary.

Wake up sheeple!!!

I often read on Owlstalk people complaining about round pegs and square holes, and then you look at a predicted line up thread and It’s usually 6 pages of different players in different positions.  Not having a pop at posters I think it’s our players fault that a) aren’t consistent in a set position or b) don’t have a defined position.  Like our club captain Bannan, Paterson, Windass etc. We seem to have a lot of utility players and not specialists.

Anyway that’s a long winded way of saying I have no idea what would be best in Moore’s 4231.  I typed the below out and now think it doesn’t look right. So will wait to see what the big man comes up with tomorrow!

                       Windass

         Bannan   Brown   Harris

                   Hutch.   Shaw

    Penney  Borner  Lees  Urhoghide

                       Wildsmith

Bannan alongside Shaw in the two I reckon. He naturally drops deep anyway so putting him farther forward would be a waste as he’d drop back. More importantly is the fact he needs the movement of the 3 + CF in front of him to  take advantage of his passing range - that’s how we’ll get the best out of Bannan.

Big fan of 4-2-3-1 formation.

It is modern, encourages possession based football and very flexible if you know how to play it.

First signs seem to be very encouraging.
