Al98
When we do go down I could see this being a realistic squad for league one. Offer Westwood, Lees, Urhoghide, Hutchinson and Hunt New Contracts. Let Odubajo, Van Aken, Penney, Pelupessy, Reach, Harris, Kachunga, Rhodes all go. Sell Iorfa, Luongo, Borner and Dawson for a little bit of money to spend. 7 new signings. Goalkeepers: - Westwood - Wildsmith - Render Defenders: - Palmer - Dawodu - Lees - Urhoghide - Dunkley - New Centre Back - New Left Back - Galvin Midfielders: - New Right Mid - Adeyonin - New Centre Mid - Hutchinson - Hunt - Bannan - Dele Bashiru - New Left Mid - Green Strikers - Windass - Patterson - New Striker - New Striker

I'd be reluctant to have anyone whose been part of the first team setup for 5 years or longer in this squad. A large part of our problem is mental fragility. Ship them out for our sake as well as theirs. I'd let Palmer go. I think he's reached the limits of his potential with us. He's stagnated a bit and would probably do well with a new challenge elsewhere. Same with Lees. He's been a good servant but he's not had a great time last two seasons If we're starting again let's seize the moment and build a new culture as well as a team. You can't have too many of the old guard around for that to be successful. I suspect if a decent offer came in for Bannan from one of the higher placed local clubs he'd be off as well. A root and branch reset wouldn't be the worst thing to happen.

Luke Jackson has been on the bench last couple of games and a couple more times this season. Seems to have overtaken Render. Render is fit and ayed for U23s this week only be cause Jackson was with the first team. I think Render will be released at the end of the season as his contract is up. A complete clear out is needed, replaced by players who are Big, strong, atheltic and quick and will take no sh*t from the opposition. 3
shezzas left peg
For me I'd let everyone apart from those that have been transitioning from the under 23s do one. I'd get bazza's agent touting him around to get him sold on too. I just don't think he's built for league 1. Yoy need to have a solid tough central midfield that can do a bit of everything adequately. Glen whelan type players, not brilliant at one thing, but good solid pros that get the job done. I'd also pull everyone into the office and ask if they're up for a fight, anyone showing hesitation or I didn't think was mentally tough enough goes on the list too. League one is not about Hollywood balls, pirouettes and cruyff turns. It's about getting stuck in, playing as a team and grafting for 90 minutes every game for each other, otherwise you'll never get out of there, You can't carry passengers. 5 1

I'd replace all of them if I could, but we have to be realistic. With this we would be letting 8 go for free and selling 4. That's 12 players, that's a lot for one season. So it at least makes sense to keep the odd few who have performed here and there this season since we can't sign 23 new players
S72 Owl
No way should we be offering Westwood a new contract. Is this his 3rd or 4th injury he’s had since returning just after Christmas. We desperately need a new number 1 what ever league we are in next season. Id go with a 4-3-3 Gk; New number 1 Wildsmith Def: New RB Palmer Iorfa Dunkley Urhogide Hutch Penney Galvin Midfield: New CM New CM New CM New CM Dele Hunt Attack: New Wide Forward New Wide Forward New Wide Forward Windass New CF New CF Sell Dawson, Borner, Bannan, Luongo, Patterson, Edited February 27, 2021 by S72 Owl
mogbad
All the old guard of Westwood, Lees, Hutchinson, Palmer, Rhodes & Reach need to go. Of all those out of contract I’d offer Urhoghide a new deal, the rest can do one.
matthefish2002
I hope we have already started putting in a lot of ground work to bring players in during the summer. Should have started about Christmas. Have a budget to work to (probably 2 depending what league we are win), what areas are a priority, identify which players might be avilable, back up targets. If we have not even started to do this than next season will be another disaster.
jonnyowl
Just remember this, DC and Piaxo will control the recruitment in the summer just as they did last summer and look how well they did then!

Themagiccap
Brennan would be a cheap option to retain lets ts not forget that £2.5M was the salary cap for league one. No way with the drop in revenue could we get Lees or Westwood to sign in league one

Just have to see if he will change to a month on month off rotation rather than the 2 weeks on month off rotation he’s on now. Lees is in his 30s, won’t improve and we have no chance of ever receiving a transfer fee for him. No reason why we shouldn’t try to extend his £25k a week contract. That’s our £2.5m wage cap blown on two players straight away so no I don’t think that’s a realistic squad for league 1.

Windass could be a squad player for half the championship so he’ll go too. We’re left with kids and garbage. Need a 2004 or 2011 style rebuild and even at league 1 level I’d guess at that costing about £5-10m which DC won’t have. Plus Sunderland and Ipswich have just been taken over so will have cash to spend which means we can’t have our pick of league 1 players. Its a long long way back and even quite likely we could struggle
