Thompson has lifted these players more than the previous 3 managers. But you are right, our current squad just doesn’t have the right blend. We have some good championship players, Lees is a good example. We do not have a good ‘team’. Repeating what has been said a million times, we have no plan, structure or strategy. We just sign point players, without thinking about what makes a good team. It’s championship manager Paxo styley...

THIS

As a result of not selling players at the right time, sorting out contracts, engaging in some sort of turnover, asking for advice about or making contacts, following common sense in the football world...we are left with scraps.  Good honest players but i could have told you it wasnt working a year ago..And not even bringing in a goal threat.

Pulis was laughing at what he had been left with.  When asked about the team, all he could say was theyre a good bunch, knowing full well as a whole they werent strong enough.

How can folk blame Thompson when there’s 4 Wednesday players, in their own box, marking nobody and allowing free headers? Just a little bit of communication sorts that.

The players bottled it. A team destined for league one, that lacks quality in all areas

Marking from crosses and corners not good eg Stoke and Brentford

He wasn’t the answer either. Just another atrocious decision.

The sad thing is, he was our best chance, like it or not.

Both. He was worse than Monk and Thompson.

He was worse because of the players/chairman, if you can’t see it.

Ignore his style of play, look at his record, not his achievements as such, he was our best chance.

Watch the last two goals people and watch our wonderful captains attempted to get the ball off his man

Heart of a dead fish

Try watching again and watch how Penney is at fault for the second goal. 3rd goal Bannan does poorly by letting his man go by him. There are then around half a dozen players who perform ineptly resulting in the goal.

Bannan played well first half and also put a chance on a plate for Paterson at 2-2 which he completely fluffed. He was poor second half overall and he shouldn't be captain but there were 8 or 9 worse performers for us today.

A Tony Pulis side would not have surrendered a 2-0 half time lead in the inept and pathetic manner that we did

We didn't look like having two shots in a game under Pulis never mind score two in the first half.

And I was one who expected Pulis to improve us. It turned out to be a disaster.

The players let themselves down but Thompson has to have some responsibility.

Last week he said that Brown is not getting much of a run out as he needs to work on his fitness. In the space of a week he goes from not being able to play for more than 15 minutes per game for the last 4 months to playing the entire 90 minutes.

Hutchinson has clearly performed better in defence and has struggled in midfield. Today he struggled in midfield again and looked knackered before 60 minutes but still played 90.

Why does he keep making central defensive substitutions during games when players aren't injured? It effects the coordination of the back line. Today he brings Dunkley on with 7 minutes left and he is caught ball watching with 3 players unmarked behind him.

The overall responsibility for any mistakes Thompson makes lies with Chansiri though, Thompson has never been a Championship manager and should not have to keep having the responsibility of trying to mitigate the owners mess every game.

Penney’s man was the 2nd.

Agreed, very poor by Penney.

In the match highlights you can see Bannan busting a gut to get back and cover his man and Penney casually strolling back watching his man tapping the ball in the net.

This. I do wonder though, if we had taken a similar approach to games, as we did in this match, whether we’d have won a few more games. Our lack of championship quality strikers would still have seen us struggle, but creating that many chances may have given us more hope. As I posted in the other thread, I don’t believe our second half collapse was a result of our more attacking approach We should have been out of sight
