This should be the absolute basic skeleton of our team selection now

Yeah - Rhodes on his own up front

Almost like that's been tried a million times and been conclusively proven NOT to work

He's not though, he's got Reach and Harris and the attacking midfielder to support him,..

Completely different to how he's been on his own before

Come on dude, you don't have to be the talksport of posters all the time you know

We’ve won one game (against Wycombe) and picked up no other points since Hutchinson was moved into midfield. Hutchinson and Bannan give us the mobility of Brian Potter it’s a woeful pairing.

Hutchinson was playing well in defence when he first came in.

We look better with Hutchinson in defence. And now with Dele out injured, we’re really light in central midfield.

I’d probably revise the team I suggest above. We need to attack teams, we seriously have nothing to lose. I’d go a midfield three of:

Brown Shaw Bannan

When Shaw’s back from suspension that is

You think Hutchinson Bannan and Shaw didn't work as a midfield. This will be even worse. You had it right the first time.

The problem last few matches is that Harris cannot seem to beat a man or get crosses in, Reach lacking confidence doesn't do that either. When both are on form they would be worth a place.

The thing that always gets me about simple answers like this is the assumption that other teams won't know exactly what we're doing. Our fundamental constraint is that we don't have a tremendous amount of pace in the squad, and thats shown in the number of times we give away soft goals that often come about from our players getting out of position and not being able to track back quicker than others. All well and good saying "just get it in t'mixer early" but when you have Rhodes and Paterson moving at a snails pace, and Harris and Reach not much better, that whole play more often than not leaves you 4 men down and vulnerable on your own wing (especially if you've got three at the back and you're expecting those wingers you've sent forwards to suddenly be in defense).

Ultimately I still think our route to success is through set plays and attrition football. We need to do what most relegation sides do, soak up pressure, let our opponents exhaust ourselves, then get them on the break without being at so much risk. Paired with some smart corners and free kicks and you can nick a few goals and hopefully make it out.

This.

We play too defensively because we play with too many defensive minded players.

We all say this,so why can't the management and the players see this.dont they have discussions on how they want to play.or do they just accept what the manager says.or are they not bothered as most won't be here next season.

I don't really get the clamour for Brown.  Admittedly he has had little opportunity but when he comes on, he has done nothing to suggest he would improve the already sorry state of affairs.

Brown was one of the best players in the league last season.  Especially at creating chances - which is by far our biggest problem.

We have to gamble on Brown finding form again.

He can't be any worse than what we have in the team. We create NOTHING and its sad to watch

Last Saturday really pi55ed me off. It wasn’t time to rest players and try players in different positions, it was a game to play your go to strongest team. That go to team has to include the players in the op in those positions.

That game annoys me more than last Wednesday. Such an opportunity to give us an advantage and failed miserably.

I think people have an idea of what Harris is (flying winger) and let that blind the reality,  his end product and ball retention is really poor. I don't doubt his effort or energy but he rarely delivers. The last time he did it was against a really poor LB/entire Wycombe defence.  I don't even think he is that quick, just that he has good acceleration to the top (decent) pace.

Slim pickings in our squad, but I don't think he make the best starting 11.

We are at the stage now where we probably need to win half our games. For me, we have to go for it, at least trying to win those games, not just trying to hang in there. It’s time for Brown. Sure I’m not confident that he will deliver, butI know the others can’t  Last season he had far more assists than any of our lot, and that was in a rubbish Luton side. As I said, I’m far from certain that he will deliver, but I do know he has done it, so it has to be worth giving him a run in the side. At the moment we are sleep walking towards relegation. If we need to go three at the back, to get the wing backs high up the pitch, so be it. It also means we can get three in midfield, and one of them has to be Brown. At the moment, we can only score a goal from crosses, or set plays. That’s too limiting, we need to find extra ways of creating chances and Brown is the best man to do that, in my opinion

That line up is fine when we have the ball, the only thing I would say is who is stopping the opposition from walking through our midfield and their wide players putting our full backs under pressure. This line up would concede goals so that means we would have to probably have to score 2 or more goals to win games, can you see that on a regular basis?
