Neil Thompson on Adam Reach

Recommended Posts

Everyone has ups and downs. It maybe wasn't his night on Wednesday but he's put a lot of miles in.

You have to make decisions, and make changes.

He'll just get on with it and do what he has to do.

He gives us many options in certain areas.

I'll be honest

Hearing Neil Thompson bemoaning Adam Reach not excelling in the last game where he was played on the right hand side of central midfield makes me want to rage hard

How the midfield lined up Wednesday was  absolutely bewildering.

It was like a box.

Hutchinson            Bannan

Reach                     Kachunga

              Rhodes

How anyone thinks that midfield with a back 3/5 makes sense is beyond me. Reach and Harris spent most of the first half playing on top of each other.

Thompson has been in charge a couple of months and he’s already abandoned everything he was doing right. Just like Monk did and just like Carlos did. He’s overthinking it.

Honestly not blaming him here. He shouldn’t be in this position, but strange how he’s repeating the same mistakes Monk did...

Happens to pretty much every Sheffield Wednesday manager

Put players in their best positions.

Play the system they are used to.

Play our game not the oppositions.

Don't over complicate it. Keep it simple.

If we do the above and go down then NT will not be to blame.

Definitely a recurring theme. Not just at Wednesday.

You can probably put Jos in there too when he abandoned the 343 for his 2nd season.

It’s either weak mentality, or managers trying to move away from results dictating selection and trying to implement their ‘vision’.

HES A LEFT WINGER YOU FOOL

I hope it was part of the discussion they had after Brentford.

The team being better with Reach on the left.

The issue of where to play Reach is a head scratcher for any manager at this club. If you play him LM then it may be ok moving forward with his ability to cross a ball, the negative is when we don't have the ball. We cant defend with a midfield of Bannan Reach and more than likely Harris which then leaves one defensive player to rely on so the balance isn't right, let's be honest all 3 are not the best without the ball especially with no recognized left back or to be honest a decent right back. So if we play 3-5-2 with wing backs you need someone with pace to get up and down the pitch again with respect he can't do that effectively. So that leaves a midfielder in a 3, to be honest he doesn't play. Honestly it not his fault that he doesn't fit, but if he plays then I agree LM is the only place he plays but then you will have to drop Bannan or Harris and play a more defensive player and that would leave us even more negative than we are already so what do we do?

The recruitment really just needed to get that player who made up for Bannan and Reach's flaws (lack of physicality). We didn't get it.

We signed the likes of David Jones and Jacob Butterfield when really it needed someone far more physcial to allow the likes of Bannan, Reach, Wallace, Forestieri etc to do what they do.

It’s doing the Brentford manager’s planning for him.

How to stop Reach putting crosses in - keep him on the right

How to stop Kachunga - keep him on the left

How to stop Rhodes - play him on his own and don’t let Reach & Harris cross into him

How to make our midfield disjointed - play Bannan and Hutch in a 2.
