There won't be a game against Lincoln next season for them to rub it in, we'll have swapped places.

Wait till we get tonked at Salford , a scary thought but possible , these were playing 8th tier football about 6 years ago whilst we were going for the play offs 🙄

I’ve enjoyed the league one seasons in the past, the 2004/05 and 2011/12 seasons are two of the best I’ve had watching Wednesday.

But this time it feels a lot different

Yes, they were enjoyable times - but I don’t want to see us having to scrap and battle to avoid relegation to League Two - which is, I suspect, what is in store for us this time

On the plus side, Hull were even worse than us in the second half of last season (which is some going) and they've been top or near the top of L1 all season. So it can't be that good a league.

(Yes I'm clutching at straws, knowing full well that we'll be getting soundly beaten by teams we've never even played before)

the downside of rebuilding .......we've done before and bounced back no reason why we cant again .

Our two previous stints in League One were broadly similar. Bad first seasons, got it together in the second. They were also underpinned by our ability to attract good managers for that level, and pull some weight when attracting L1 players. Sturrock’s stock was extremely high and neither Megson nor Jones were dropping to L1 to manage anyone else.

What do you think the odds of us attracting a manager with a rising or established stock are now? What about a plan to recruit the right mix of characters, young players and experience for the division? Done well at any of that recently have we?

Every single aspect of our on the pitch approach right now is utterly ripe to land with a complete crash in League One. Just by nature of where it sits in the pyramid, League One is full of organised clubs and teams on upward trends who will stare us down and have a right good laugh at our expense, as we ship 3 at places like Fleetwood and Shrewsbury.

Absolutely this. Anyone expecting league 1 to be a bit of fun will have the novelty removed very quickly when we fail to rebuild in the summer and come up against the likes of Accrington and Forest Green- progressive clubs who are effective operators at that level on a small budget.

Chansiri needs to fizz off and he needs to do like the day before yesterday.

At least we have a plan and structure behind the scenes and our accounts are out in public highlighting our positive financial situation.

:duntmatter:

Ipswich and Sunderland might be acceptable now. Could go full Portsmouth this.

Can see a Bolton scenario were the club is millions in debt with no way of paying and the team freefalling down the leagues.

there is a rumour that our manager was given an incentive to be relegated by the owners because they didnt want to pay championship players wages and wanted to get rid of our star larkers

most of whom despite trying to do the honourable thing and stay were got rid of beginning of this season

in mcann we had a league one manager who had been signing league one players for some time and if we had survived last season  fighting relegation would have followed until the inevitable happened.

however a dip into league one and a change of fortunes on the pitch might have seen fans shelve their hatred of the owners as everyone loves a winning side? despite what level you are playing in?

league one is mad. we get beat by portsmouth 2 -0  at home and then  we beat them 4-0 away

we beat ipswich 3-0 away and they beat us 1-0 at home.

we were top and lost to the bottom club at home

then can go beat a top six side with ease.

the level of skill is quite poor and it wouldnt take a lot to get out of this division.

someone like bruce could succeed in this league with his eyes closed. as long as he had grafters.

you lot must agree that if you can swallow the loss of status (which has always been a big thing with your fans, not so much for us down to earth downtrodden types) winning every week (in league one) is surely better than losing in the champs.

and chansiri know this plus its cheaper to run a club in league one

plus hangers on (rhodes?) may be tempted to do one

maybe there is a bigger plan

Yeah we have similar situations to be fair. It does feel though that this club will struggle in League 1. I'd be very surprised if we were top 2 most of the season like you have been. Both of our previous relegations to league 1 (in 2003 and 2010) we finished 16th in our first season. I can see something similar happening unless we have a solid summer recruitment and plan. Which we never have under Chansiri.

Your post gives us hope as our situation is quite similar.

Find ourselves in a similar situation I think.

I would be confident if the chairman and the recruitment team released some control and let Moore or whoever is manager build the squad. A bit like Mandaric did with Megson when we went down before.

I just have zero faith in us making the right signings to bounce back.

And I also really fear for the financial situation at the club. Not sure DC has the funds to keep us going. Too many warning signs that the business has serious serious cash flow issues. I know the wage bill will be dramatically reduced, but still not sure if we are sustainable.

Or is it just that you're really crap at playing at home? lol

100% this. That's why I'm looking forward to the summer, a complete rebuild of the squad and DM is the man for this.

A real real worry is that we are 6 months away from an Ipswich or Sunderland scenario.

Stuck in the wilderness for years, worse and worse crowds and squads deteriorating in quality, with hardly any names recogniseable to the majority of fans and lower league journeymen to boot.

Hull seem to be doing ok this season.

I don’t know how much their squad has changed though.
