Its not bizarre its great decision.

We’ve been in the bottom 3 99% of the season and he’s vocal every year about playing in the PL again.

From his side it’s bizarre extending your contract at a side that’s odds on for relegation to the 3rd tier.

He's 31, just had a baby and the captain of the side. I kinda get why he's staying irrespective of the league we are in. Perhaps if we do get relegated he'll want to bring us back up or perhaps there's a clause which allows him to leave if we do get relegated. Either way I am happy he's signed and hopefully we can push on and claw ourselves out of the relegation places.

This is key. He's got a pretty good gig here, he's settled and is pretty much guaranteed to play every week. He's already experienced being on the periphery of a couple of Premier League squads earlier in his career so in that respect this makes perfect sense for him.

And it's good for the club if the captain commits as an example to the other players.

Good news all round.

Great news and a reasonable size contract to suit both parties. Glad its not a 4 year etc and weve learnt our lesson from previous players.

However this is also completely dispells the rumours about Shaw and the fact we didn't give him a competive offer as if we've got enough to sign Bannan/Hutch, we've got enough to sign Shaw

This isn't going to go down well with those who've told us for the last few seasons that we need to get rid of him to improve

There will be a few livid folk today that's for sure when they see our best player has signed to stay

It won’t go down very well either with folk who were saying yesterday’s story was only to appease “fans” complaining about out of contract players on social media and fan sites.

You don't think this announcement has been rushed out to chill everyone out and change the narrative?

Not sure you understand how PR works
