Sensible recruitment and a transfer policy we would never accept at s6. They sell as soon as they get a reasonable bid

I would say that while we are spending on players they are investing in them. If we took similar approach to signing players unlike Barnsley we would be able to hang onto them and sell at our convinience. We could certainly learn something here.

They're not.

We'll have won more points than them come the end of the season.

Agreed - I expect us to finish above them (and Rotherham) in the league this year (incl. the 6 Points deduction)... I'm also pretty suspect on this entire Topic being a wind up given the title and then some further comments...

They are doing ok, but we've seen this before with them.

Fair chance half of their squad will move on in the summer.

They do seem to scout some great players and we don't...this goes all the way down to Academy level.

Some of the players that have gone through the Barnsley system and how they manage their finances means they will probably become a solid Championship club and that might be enough for them. They have a good manager by the looks of it.

Out of the 5 South Yorkshire clubs we are the messy one who can't find a good manager.

Would just indicate how well they recruited.

Football status is normally down to size we will normally be the highest placed team in South Yorkshire, blades  2nd, Barnsley 3rd, Rotherham 4th, Doncaster 5th

Over several seasons this is the normal order Its just the way it is

Under S Gray we signed some great players for peanuts that were influential in CC's (apparent success) over the following seasons... However we just pushed SG to the side for CC to come in with a few key players (big bucks for us) to watch and then tactically screw up our chances of promotion....

We've also had some great players, but we fail to benefit from them due to our tactics... For example we all knew that Joao was a great player when we (SWFC) played fast attacking football and fed him quick through balls... However he turned to absolute dog poo when we started the CC porkie pea negative tactics with playing it back (from an attacking position), then across the back line (a lot of times), then up the other wing (not playing in dangerous cross though), then back, across the back line, etc, etc and then an eventual long ball to the opposition... Then the managers since haven't been much more attacking minded (SB said he struggled getting this negative style out of them) and hence he (Joao) wasn't the player he was/ could have been for us... However Joao at Reading who attack fast and feed him the balls that he needs to thrive on (like we used too before CC tactics) have inevitably got a player that is the 3rd highest scorer in the championship and if they are promoted I expect him to continue this form in the Premiership... You could also argue (with this view on tactics/ players) that we have also destroyed J Rhodes (who was statistically immense), as again we haven't adopted to benefit from his style of play... He needs crosses into the box and a physical strike partner (for smash/grab tactics), but we've had him as a loan target man or rather than play the ball into a danger area quickly we've just played it back (negative tactics as before).

Wasn’t just the ones we had under CC it was really the last time we had a clear long term plan. Sign players who have come through the premier league academy or played at youth international level who have either dropped down and played or who need to in the hope they can get back up. Even the ones we got on loan fitted this model, Wickham Garnder Drenthe !!!

So if you look at our successful team under cc

Westwood

Lees Loovens

Hutchison Lee

Nuhiu

The entire spine of the team was built prior to him and DC arrival. And Bar Nuhiu they were guaranteed starters week in week out.

Since then our plan has been none existent

This is a great post.

Ill add Forestieri to this. He got the label only played for one year. No we only got the best out of him for one year. That first season ball played into his feet on the left had side 40 yards from goal..... options are, Bannan buzzing around him pudil running beyond him Lee in for a quick 1-2 Hooper the same Wallace Hunt as cross field balls and Hutch available for the lay back... he could also try a bit of magic on his own which would create more space for all of the above.

Year 2. Same situation he has no one within 20 yards or him, and Fletcher standing 30 yards away wanting it lumped to his head.

Was only thinking yesterday....... maybe we could limp through to the end of the season and if we stay up have a go at nicking Ismael from the dingles....... other clubs probably thinking the same mind

Annoys me when people can't be objective because they are blinded by their "support...." for Wednesday.

Barnsley are a small club that have (consistently) run a very good recruitment team/system. They generally overachieve, never overstretch and always seem to be working to a coherent plan. They may be "smaller" than us in terms of history, fan base and ground size but they are outperforming us in the basics of running a football club, end of.

At the moment they are way down the performance table in comparison to us and mediocre in terms of league position so I think we should see if their plan works before discussing further....

The same thoughts as me + if it's working for us don't change it - especially in our circumstances....
