Nigel Pearson attacks club controlled journalism

All reporters are told what to do by their editors, and the editors by the owners of the Media involved.

Where is the democracy and freedom of the press in that?.

Still it gives  any one another stick to beat the club with I suppose.

@Toadie@YesWeCrann - are you ever dictated to by your editors on a day to day basis when doing your pieces and writing your articles?

That's kinda the point Nigel Pearson is making amongst others

Hmm it’s not really. All privately owned companies and public sector organisations have their own PR teams and control news from their perspective. It’s part of managing the reputation of a large organisation or business.

Media outlets are completely free to scrutinise what they say and write about it on a variety of different platforms. It’s not like DC is stopping the Sheffield Star or The Daily Mirror writing an article which paints a negative picture of the club? That would be a dictatorship. A club controlling their own media output is not.

That's literally not the point that Pearson is referring to

He's not talking about what outlets can and cannot report

He's saying that clubs shouldn't control the output by only choosing one reporter or one publication to do their output through

But you know this and you're just playing your usual Mary Contrary character

lol

Not at all. This is what Nigel said:

“If all we get is journalism from the perspective of the football club, we’re moving towards a dictatorial state and that’s not what we are.

“If we don’t have [independent journalism] we may as well not bother, we may as well live in a Communist state where we’re taught not to think.”

1. We don’t just get journalism from the perspective of the club. For one the club don’t employ journalists - they employ a a Comms team to manage the reputation of the club and communicate to customers (whether they’re good at that is a different story).

2. Nowhere in what you copied in to the OP does he say -  ‘clubs shouldn't control the output by only choosing one reporter or one publication to do their output through.’ Apologies if he said this in the original article.

3. I don’t have a clue what point he is trying to make. We are living in a time where independent journalism is absolutely thriving, particularly in football where anyone can criticise, hold to account and scrutinise a football club. As a privately run business a football club doesn’t have to give interviews or be transparent about everything if they don’t want to be.

4. Football clubs don’t control what independent media outlets report. If they did this would be a dictatorial regime. A football club controlling its own PR and Comms is not dictatorial.

All I’m doing is pointing out the fact Nigel is waffling and his point is daft.

He's got a point. Look at the pet journalists Liverpool, Man City have got. They very rarely criticise as too concerned about access getting stopped. Liverpool are a shadow of last seasons team and get an easy ride.....better not mention anything else about them 🙄

Really? Klopp and Liverpool have been hammered in the press recently.

I sometimes get the impression fans want journalists to go up to a manager and shout at them angrily ‘YOUR RUBBISH WHY ARE YOU RUBBISH, EXPLAIN WHY YOU’RE RUBBISH’

lol
