Tony Collins RIP

Recommended Posts

He was on Wednesday's books in 1947 after being spotted playing football in wartime. He never played, but went on to have a long career and become the first black manager in English football, managing Rochdale to the League Cup Final in the 1960s. He must have been one of the first black players on Wednesday's books?

Was reading this earlier, true trial blazer.

He spotted while playing for the Army and recommended to us,while he didnt break into the 1st team,he moved upto York and then onto Watford and Norwich, a left winger with an eye for the odd goal.

Went into management and became English football FIRST black manager, taking no less than Rochdale to the final of the League Cup,where they lost out to one of his old clubs Norwich in the two legged Final as it was back then.

Went onto be a scout for some top clubs,  including Man Utd and Newcastle and was chief scout for Don Revie at Leeds.

RIP Tony.
