Celtic agree personal terms with Liam Shaw

Completely missing the point. If we continue to let our best young talents run down their contract and lose them for nowt - what is the actual point?

What’s the point of the academy. What’s the point of developing young talent and investing time into them for years and years.

What they go on to do is absolutely irrelevant.

You do realise that EPPP means the premier league can take you players for virtually fizz all anyway don’t you?

No missing the point.

So tired of explaining it all. Would Shaw have demanded first team wages this time last year if we had offered him a contract? I highly highly doubt it.

Maybe not exactly this time, but he was in the 1st team squad last year so why wouldn't he have wanted first team wages ?

What? Shaw was part of the first team squad at the end of last season. If he’s going to be involved you offer him a contract to ensure this scenario doesn’t play out. Instead we offered him one a couple of weeks before he was free to talk to other clubs.

Your telling me not one coach at the club spotted his potential? Captaining the U’18s to a title is not enough evidence this lad might become quite a good footballer and could be an asset to us in the future?

How on earth anyone is defending this absolute fuckwittery is beyond me.

So it's not DCs fault then. Try telling that to most of the posters on here.

Why do you keep missing the point. I’m literally spelling it out for you and you’re just not getting it.

We ended up with no compensation for Hirst and very minimal compo for Shaw and Clare. Because we haven’t got our house in order.

Exactly my point!!! You tie him down when he’s not demanding the world and then you hold all the aces when clubs come sniffing.

Instead we put him in the shop window and give clubs free reign to poach him for nowt.

If Shaw was a Blades player, they'd have slapped a £2m tag on him already and probably got that fee If they wanted to sell him.

We give away for free, the compensation is already spent on paying back overdue wages, and we hope he's worth £20m in future to someone else so we get 5%.

Thank god we are not short of money and in a strong position in the league.

We offered him a contract. Chansiri subtly hinted that he was asking for too much.

If Shaw is asking for too much, why even bother opening negotiations with Bannan and Reach. If we can't re-sign a youth player what chance our highest earners.

Completely agree.

Should have had negotiations started at the beginning of the season and, if nothing was agreed, moved them on this window.

Sal, that's a bit of hindsight talking though. He originally signed a 3 year contract, you can't just keep giving young players extensive contracts hoping they'll justify it.

He had his first senior game in July last year as a sub then started a game a few weeks later. He's been a bit up and down until recently and definitely deserves his place now.

But we don't know when talks started with him regarding a new contract.

And as a young player, you don't sign a deal until you're into your last 6 months so that you can attract better offers. So that you and not your club, hold all the aces.

We are always saying in hindsight with this club aren’t we?

Hindsight this, hindsight that. How about for once we show a bit of foresight.

Everything we do in every aspect is reactive instead of proactive.

And people genuinely wonder why we are staring relegation in the face and have gone horrendously backwards since DC got involved?

Probably the EFL’s fault ain’t it. Or Covid.

He is not better staying with us.

When he does not know from month to month, if he will even get paid that does not a good footballer made.

Clare in league one will be better paid than shaw, and that includes the 1 year deal DC will have offered.

You think he'll get more games for Celtic then?

As for wages, they are paid just not on time it would seem.

Re Clare you've no idea what he is being paid nor what Shaw has been offered.
