Thompson totally out of his depth

Recommended Posts

Didn't help his cause with the substitutions he made against Millwall, admittedly he's got an uphill task, maybe he's taking too much notice of Bullen, he does seem to be well involved from the touchline.

Thompson needs to return to his Under 23's coaching role.

Last night was a shambles.

Dreadful selection, formation, tactics (Pulis one up front) and substitutions.

His comment about us having six strikers treats us fans as if we are as complete idiots.

Totally disagree with you there.

Is Klopp a failure? He's lost his last two.

We're not going to win them all. Fact. We're at the bottom of the league for a reason. We've beat Bournemouth and Preston, lost to Millwall. That's promotion form.

What is a new manager going to do? How long is it going to take him to find out his best XI? Two weeks? Three weeks? We'll have played 6 games by then. We could be dead and buried. Not to mention that they'll have next to no time on the training ground to implement any changes that they want to make.

Let's not get carried away and over excited about one defeat. Yes it was a terrible second half, but let's move on. Look what happened after Coventry. Hopefully the same will happen this week.

Unbelievably, fans on here feel we should win every match.

The problem is that with Rotherham picking up we probably have to.

We can't control what Rotherham do. If they keep winning, they won't be in the relegation mix at the end of the season anyway.

History tells us that 46 points is the average needed to stay up in this division. In the past six seasons, it's 44 points.

At this stage of the season in those six seasons, fourth from bottom had the following points after 27 games:

2020 - 28

2019 - 25

2018 - 25

2017 - 25

2016 - 24

2015 - 29

This season, fourth from bottom have 28 points after 27 games, so nothing out of the ordinary which would suggest a particularly high tally is going to be needed at this point.

If we can get to 50 points, then the odds are that there will be three teams below us, unless the second half of the season is highly unusual.

Manager? no manager? There is something fundamentally wrong throughout the club.

I believe it's at the root of the club. Coaching staff throughout are long in the tooth and lack new idea's and  unable to take the fresh approach that is badly needed.

It might well be driven by our chairman? But his millions have kept us alive and still able to move forwards. We need our chairman, his money and his contacts in the business world if we change ownership at some stage

A new manager is vital, with fresh idea's, motivation skills and the ability to get the best out of some very average players.(if we can't buy any)

A very, very, average Millwall walked through us with ease, they found our weaknesses by half time and had the ability to react. We did not have a clue how to react to them be it players management or coaching staff.

Good full backs (average or better) are much needed in any team (which ever formation) We don't have any good enough for the challenges ahead and we haven't for some time now.

Our center backs look increasingly out of their depth and fold very easily. We need a man mountain, a ball winner, a person who can defend with his head and feet, and who will be an organizer with a big mouth.( Lee Bullens as a player fitted that bill to some extent. But coaching wise he's not able to pass his views on it seems)

Have we got such a player in the club? Not that I have seen.

The midfield is without any doubt a real issue. We have some quality in Bannan? but that's it. Yes some of the youngsters have shown promise, but it's not the right time to put such pressure on them. Bannan needs to be left to have free role to use his play maker skills to there best.

We don't have a  player able to take control of the midfield. We need a player who shows commitment, drive and the vision to read the game with the ability to implement change when needed. Is such a player available that fits our financial restraints, and more so wants to come to SWFC.

I really don't know, but that's the reason we need fresh blood throughout the club starting with a new manager and a full coaching team.

I do believe if we get the manager, coaching staff, back and midfield sorted there's enough quality forwards in the club to score goals and survival in the championship.

How can you blame Thompson for that, I could have sworn it was Joey who needlessly pulled down their forward.

Followed by another suicidal pass across his own midfield from Bannan.  Is Bannan beyond criticism or something.

If the opposition decides to mark him tightly he is totally ineffective.

I wish some fans would stop blaming Thompson for Saturday, of course he's going to make mistakes, of course tactically he's going to make errors.

He should not have been put in this position for this long by a clueless owner. Proper clubs don't interview manager like they've applied on indeed, proper clubs decide who they want and go and get him. Proper clubs don't leave a stand in manager in the dark for over 6 weeks to take flak for every defeat we have, say nothing and don't even offer to bring in someone in to help him. So if results don't go for us in the next week don't blame the man who been only doing what he's been told to do, blame the man who's sat 1000s miles away fiddling while Rome burnt

I think Thompson should be christened the Hokey-Cokey man as the messages on here about him seem to be IN-OUT-IN-OUT as fans give their knee jerk reaction to just about every result.

It’s full on bi polar madness
