Missed the point,  we are not selling Shaw, he has chosen to turn down a contract to go to another club and we will get very minimal compensation.
It’s not like when we sold Antonio to help financially, this is young players choosing  to walk away before signing long term deals and we end up with no reward for the years of development

Years of development? Really?

The vast majority of youth players at Wednesday are cast offs or came in from grassroots at 14yo or over.

The facilities are sub standard and the infrastructure is non existent.

There’s a 2 maybe 3 good coaches maximum and a decent scout or two.

It’s a sh1tshow.

Someone will be along shortly to say that because we dodged a bullet with Hirst, we're dodging a bullet now.

Shambolic management from the club, words can't even begin to describe it

Yep it’s bound to happen. They’ll come out and call the player greedy or getting above his station.

Meanwhile yet again we let another prospect go for peanuts.

The issue here is, as a club we have had visibility of this players development since the age of 9.

The whole reason the youth set up and academy exists is  to produce these players, but where is the mechanism that ensures we get these players tied down? Where has it gone wrong?

Probably an eye on signing ready made players. And when moving to focus on youth, it has been to late. There isn't really a way to get them tied down earlier as there is still no guarantee they would sign.

Next season we will be relying on our youngsters due to the amount that will leave at the end of their contracts come the end of the season.

if we lose our best prospect in a good while I’ll be so disappointed. Shambolic

having said that he would be mad to stay, the way we are being run at the moment is shambolic. Shocking situation

Would you blame him? We sacked him after 45 days. He’s hardly going to look after us.

Great move for the lad and I would question the advice of any agent who recommended a player either stay here or sign for us at the minute. It’s a toxic shitshow.

Celtic equally are a toxic shitshow. They are a mess on and off the pitch and their fans recent protests and behaviour only adds to the current toxicity in the boardroom.

They also have an incredibly poor record of developing and improving young players. They’ve hoovered up loads of talent from clubs over the years for them to end up getting splinters in their arse stuck on the bench and ruining their development. Shaw is at an age and stage in his career where he needs to play, if he thinks he’s going up the road to play regular football he and his agent are completely deluded. He’ll get a wage rise but he’ll end up on loan and playing a handful of games at best.

I can understand him wanting to move, fair enough, I’d want out of this shitshow too, but Celtic is a poor choice.

Sad thing is, leaving is probably the last thing he wants to do, but we're in such a mess it's not difficult to turn his head.

It’ll be a tough one for Liam. He probably loves the club but at the same time sees the direction it’s heading. His agent will know this. From a financial and career point of view it makes absolute sense for him to move on while he can.

Terribly sad we have an environment at the club where are academy prospects don’t want to stay. Thanks Dejphon.

Celtic over Sheffield Wednesday is a no brainier come on mate.

Celtic may have struggled this season but they will pull it together very soon.

If Liam Shaw had been offered a good contract in the summer, I'm sure he'd have signed. If we'd been shrewd enough then to spot his potential and the way he was developing, we'd have gone in with an offer that wouid have been a no-brainer to him, and not that expensive to us, before Celtic (or anyone else) had ever heard of him.

Instead, we've procrastinated and then ended up putting him in the shop window because our squad is paper thin.

We never sell players - DC out!

what a disgrace selling Shaw - DC out !

If money we get from selling him keeps the wolves from the door financially - crack on, we need to sell what we can sadly .

I can’t see Shaw going to Celtic having any real impact on our finances.

Giving him a new contract and him developing over the next year or two and then selling him if we needed to would have a big impact on our finances.

It happens all the time. He could have stated, or signed the contract when it was offered. I'm not saying he is trying to screw us over. I'm saying he is trying to get as much from Celtic as he can, and doing decent PR for himself.

The club always leave it until the last minute and never learn.

Agents are what they are but when they get a good un they give young player the best advice. They want fees and commission over 12 year career.

Not many agents want to do business with us.

Can you imagine a scenario where we get £100k for our best prospect in years, Neil Thompson as manager and Hutchison and Westwood strutting around the club on big money.

In League 1.

What a time to be alive.

When you put it like that

lol

The kid has been at Wednesday since he was about 7 years old. During this time he has been identified as one of the players that might make the grade and again we have completely mis-managed him. We are quite happy to waste millions of pounds on journeyman crocks that have fleeced this football club year after year. You are correct about the standard of coaching and facilities at the academy which if it was a school OFSTED would have closed down years ago.

And now way would  our 'advisor' do anything to conflict with club's interests.

Directly or indirectly.
