Liam Shaw - Celtic?

Recommended Posts

Played half a dozen games against a ******** poor league two team and average championship teams and suddenly he's the next Messi

FFS lets not overhype another player and keep the guy grounded

He looks a decent player but he's no where near the finished player

Great. A potential multi million pound player and we end up with compensation.

Question I’d like to ask is. Why wasn’t Shaw offered a new deal this time last year to prevent this type of thing happening?

His potential would have been known to the club. Or at least I bloody hope it was - they work with him every day.

Why didn't you raise this last year as you seem so concerned lol

Just been reading more about how this works, if he did want to sign for Celtic we'd only be entitled to Fifa's training compensation regime.

In the case of Danny Ings when he left Burnley for Liverpool the fee was set by the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) at 6.5 million plus add-ons. If he'd signed for Celtic, Burnley would have only got the Fifa's training compensation regime which would have been £250,000.

So if Liam Shaw signed for Celtic, I'd expect us to get somewhere around 50 pence.

Another reason to bash Chansiri

99% of people had never heard of him 12 months ago

To be honest, it's not about the hype - it's about the potential.

With the money in the game right now you have to hold onto players with potential because the money is stupid.

This kid has shown he has potential - he's produced it in only one game really against lower league - but he has shown he has the potential and we should be taking a gamble and investing in his future.

We are all a bit glass half empty at the moment....

It’s great to hear a Wednesday player is in demand. For once, we might be doing something right. I am sure he has seen what has happened recently to players in his position. He is getting in the team and is improving every game. He has been offered a new deal and I am sure there is some negotiation going on. Any agent advising he leaves Wednesday and moves to somewhere like Celtic, needs their bumps feeling. At a formative stage in his career, how will that help improve him? If he’s good enough, big money will come with Wednesday or somewhere else. Hes come a long way, he has a long way to go...

Normally I would agree with you but he is likely to be a first team regular at Celtic. Means trophies and guaranteed Champions League. Better standard than league one and no salary cap.

Hirst has trousered a life changing contract...thankfully it’s leicester paying it and not us...if shaw can get a decent contract he will be off

Which runs out next year. He's 22 next month and has never played a full first team game at any level in England, never mind scored a single goal. Hope he saved his money. Take note, Liam, stay here, learn your trade, and the money will come.

Alarm bells were ringing last night when he didn’t make the team or bench

Along with another 10 or so first teamers that weren't in the squad last night. Could have been any number of reasons as to why.

But he would be an important player for us next season in league 1 with potential to improve, if we could come back first time of asking or be worth more in transfer fees after another season of improvement. Personally would rather invest to keep Shaw than continue to fund the loan moves of Marriott and Brown or recruit Hutchinson

Thompson said he has a slight shoulder injury.

We've got 6 games in the next 2 weeks so you can't read anything into the Everton team sheet. And, he has an important role to play for us over the remainder of the season.

I'm not saying DC isn't capable of f@cking up the relationship and contract negotiation with a young lad that's wholeheartedly blue and white though because he 100% is.

With 5 months left on his contract, we're not going to be selling him for much though, are we?

well thats how it is ......we'll get what he's worth  with 5 months left on his contract .  he;s a young lad whos played a few a games and done well like wildsmith and dawson did to earn themselves 4 -5 year contracts which the club probably regret giving them so understandable why the club arnt wanting to commit to long term deals just on potential ....
