Popular Post Lord Snooty
"Have we got a manager yet?" "No, Sir. But it has only been 36 days. That puts us at about the two-thirds stage of proceedings given previous manager recruitment." "Man alive, but it's frustrating. I like to know where I am. Fans want that bit of excitement don't they. " "Like new signings,Sir" "Yes, exactly. Just like that" "Well it looks like there's one of those to be announced, Sir" "Oooh terrific, please tell me it's a pacy, young mobile striker , or a marauding young left back that we have needed for 7 years. Or even better- both!" "Sam Hutchinson" "Have you been drinking?" "He is returned, Sir, if sources are to be believed." "But he's only just left!" "It would appear he's back. Medical pending, of course" "Medical?!! At Hillsborough! Douglass Bader could pass a sodding medical at Hillsborough, honest to God, I don't know what it involves. Probably whether they have the strength to lift the pen to the contract." "Well, supposedly it is happening" "Well this will certainly delight the fanbase Stubbs, if there's one thing we like at this club it's the thought of ex-players coming back. I'm surprised we haven't had a Kenwyne Jones thread or a Ben Marshall thread while people have been tapping their fingers waiting for a manager." "I believe there has been a Marshall thread, Sir" "FFS, this is exactly what I'm on about. Hello, hang on a minute, how can we sign Hutchinson when we have no manager?" "That is the way of things these days,Sir. The modern model, if you like" "Yes, yes, I get that. But I mean to say, this isn't any old player is it. It's one that's been bombed out by 2 of the last 4 managers. I mean, there's a 50/50 chance that he'll sign-on and fall out with the new chap and be sat in the stiffs for the rest of the season." "Well, unless..." "Unless what?" "Unless he comes in as the new player manager ,Sir" "What sort of basket-case club would...no, don't answer that." "Well looking at the positive side of things sir, it might just work. At least he wouldn't freeze himself out!" "I wouldn't bank on it. I could see him arguing the throw with himself looking in the mirror having his morning shave!" "Well, anyway Sir. Do you want the Everton team news?" "Where's Kieran Lee?" "I don't follow, Sir" "Have we signed Kieran Lee?" "No,Sir, as far as I'm aware he's gone to Bolton" "Well we may aswell have signed him up! I mean, if we're looking to signing our own players on freebies, that would have made more sense. Not least since he's been our most intelligent footballer of the last 20 years, absolutely no bother to his managers and is probably the only central midfield player we've had in the past 6 years who didn't spend half his time sat on the toes of our centre halves." "So. I take it you're not happy with the mooted Hutchinson return then ,Sir?" "Me? Oh no, quite the opposite. Season is an absolute dogs dinner. We rarely score more than the opposition, and after goals, what is there to look forward to in a game" "The full time whistle?" "No , a flying 20 yard sliding tackle that wipes out both victim and perpetrator! Part of you is thrilled, out of your seat in excitement, us Yorkshireman love nothing more than seeing one of the opposites get nailed you know Stubbs, it's become one of the great thrills of Hillsborough in recent years. Your heart is pumping and full of joy at the clattering, you're up off your seat whooping and clapping, but then the wait, the trepidation, the alarm, the apprehension as you wait to see if one of our biscuit boys will limp from the fray, be stretchered off, or climb gingerly to his feet to carry on" "Is that genuinely one of the most exciting things about watching modern era Wednesday? Sitting apprehensively waiting to see if someone can carry on playing?" "Yes it is. It really is. Well, apart from a good Cup run, I always enjoy a good Cup run, as long as we can avoid any of our traditional cup bogey sides. Who did you say we've got Stubbs? Stubbs! Where are you going!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EVERTON -v- WEDNESDAY SUN 24 JAN 2021 THE FA CUP - FOURTH ROUND Kick off - 20:00 Venue: Goodison Park -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EVERTON Dominic Calvert-Lewin will return for Everton's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park The England forward has missed the Blues last two matches with a hamstring injury. Morepork
I'm torn, Its the cup, so anything can happen!!! On the other hand we are Sheffield Wednesday, so that doesn't count for us.......back to earth with a bump maybe. Either way, looking forward to getting some footy back, even if we are managerless and re-signing players we released only weeks ago...... Popular Post nevthelodgemoorowl
My 16th Birthday May 15th 1966. Me and my Dad this was going to be the Birthdays of Birthdays following our Cup success of the previous day. All a bit fuzzy at distance of 55 years. I believe we caught the train just before 5 on Saturday morning . Got a breakfast in St Pancras and made our way to the outdoor stage shows at Tower Hill. I was fascinated by the Tattooed man who even had his tongue and his lips pictured. We Made our way down to Baker Street where we booked into a BB for the night. We heard on the radio of devastating news that Everton had a couple of injuries. Labone, Pickering or both. Tube up to Wembley it was about 11 a good few fans up there at the top of Wembley way. We had round of sandwiches as the nerves built. Slowly we mad our way to entrance B20 to the left of the Twin towers. Settled for community singing, they don't do that anymore, but you had to wave hankies while you sang. Surprise as the teams came out. Trendy even by todays standards; The back of team tops had OWLS printed on them. Surprised me as Mr Taylor was a stickler for tradition ! Only 4 minutes on the clock when McCalliog netted ! Dad, Uncle, Cousin and I went crazy banners held aloft. Yet most of our Fans were not there to enjoy it as close to 60,000 tickets went to FA Croanies, true any registered club could apply for two tickets but that in the main was a ruse. My Dad had passed by the time of League Cup Win and that fabulous day at Cardiff, It hurt so much we weren't together for those two dates but my children were there. The grand Kids I guess have to wait a little longer. I digress ! On 52 minutes we sealed our entry into the European Cup Winners Cup ! Except it didn't. I never expected to be sat on the steps of B20 some 35 minutes later tears streaming down my face, my 16th Birthday laying in tatters. Not a word was uttered as we caught the Tube into the centre, almost choking on our Fish, Chips and peas. Dad and uncle took my Cousin and I to a cinema. We both fell asleep. Don't recall the film. Breakfast was a glum event too before we made our way to St Pancs and the trip home. EVERTON ? Tell you what they made our next visit to Wembley all the sweeter. Such a shame my Dad couldn't share that celebration. Up the Owls do your best lads ! 5 19
Neon Nick
Glad to see Everton as the opposition, as Wednesday seems to play their best, when the odd's aren't in their favor. Thanks, as always, Lord Snooty, but in your lineup I'd move Shaw to LB and Boerner (?) to CB...actually I'd set up in a 4-4-2. In any case, 2-1, Wednesday, Paterson & Reach (Shaw?) if they play. I know, "deluded", but delusion never got any Owlstalker banned.... WAWAW. 2

Bing Cosby
A full strength Everton at Goodison... What could possibly go wrong ey!? But it's a free hit...hopefully Thompson will rotate enough to protect players for the hugely important upcoming business in the league and give some youngsters a night to remember... Such a shame the stands will be empty, this would be a great tie in normal times COME ON YOU BLUE AND WHITE WIZARDS!

Marro
To be honest I’m dreading this. Would love us to pull off an amazing win. Head saying that if we can come out of this with a narrow defeat and respectability then I would take that. A hammering could do us immense harm for the rest of the season. Really hope I am proved wrong on this.
Pablo Bonvin
I expect another performance exactltnlike the last ones wgere we've played against premier league teams in the FA Cup recently (Man City/Chelsea). Little possession, even fewer chances and Pelupessy having maybe one touch all game. Maybe they'll surprise us and we'll go into a new week with a warm feeling but I really can't see it. The magic of the FA Cup? If it is, it's more Paul Daniels than Dynamo. Up the Owls for what it's worth anyway.

aussieowl87
Fully expecting us to get mullered. Anything under 4-0 would be a bonus. Shot on target would be nice.
