This is just the type of signing we should be making.

This has got to be the road we go down for the foreseeable, young with 150 plus appearances already. What ever we pay at his age we'd at least get our money back if it didn't work out but also the chance we could rake in a handsome profit at some point. This is another reason why it makes so much sense to appoint Cook as manager, he and his contacts know the lower leagues so well and would pick up many more astute signings. The way out of our financial mess is by clever wheeling and dealing. Look at where most of the blunts players came from that got them to the Premier league.

Cultured left back with fantastic left foot who takes great set-piece.

However there is a question about his ability to defend and how he would fit into team that doesn't play Crewe's brand of passing football.

Yeah, the worry is, he suffers the same issues Penney has had when it comes to establishing himself.

Both seem very similar players. Technically very good, athletic, and who love to get forward.

Penney has been stifled by the managers he's played under's preference for passive, deep block defensive outlook.

Pickering though, has games under his belt, at such a young age. That exposure so early on in your career can be invaluable, and you'd hope that Pickering's attacking talents can yield a more positive outlook for the team, whilst an opportunity for Pickering himself to develop on his defensive frailties. But, those two scenario's only happen, if he's given games to do so.

Hopefully we will be playing that way soon. He seems quite tall for a left back as well

Sounds like we already have the first bit in Matt Penney?

I would be happy if we signed this lad, AND kept Penney. If we refine the way we play, and I hope we’ve seen the last of managers like Monk and Pulis, then those two would be decent options for us down the left

Perhaps we could swing the deal our way, by offering them Penney on loan for the rest of the season, as a ready made replacement, providing he signs a contract extension first. Game time for Penney, in a good footballing side, and in Palmer, who never lets us down when asked to play there, we have adequate back up in the position

This is a welcome change to the type of players we have been pursuing.

I was tod just before Christmas the best two left footed players in lower leagues were Alfie Doughty who has just been signed by Stoke and Harry Pickering from Crewe. The guy knows his football and will not be far off.

I have never seen him play in real life but by all accounts talented player very mobile good passer of ball and got a shot on him. Also very good at free kicks both direct and indirect. Ideally suited in playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation where full backs are attacking players.

We need this type of player to move away from static formation we have.

Sincerely hope we sign him he is very good choice for the club and any worthwhile manager would be delighted to have him as part of squad.
