But the fans there are clear on who does what and there is a hierarchy but ours seems a bit more hidden and messy. Having a third party agent act as a Director of Football but with no accountability, official title or responsibility is not a normal way of running things.
SiJ
The thing is, a lot of modern day football clubs are set up in such a way where you have a head coach and then you have a recruitment team or a director of football etc. I suspect that most of the big 6 are set up in that manner one way or another. The days of a manager pretty much overseeing everything are probably long gone, for the most part. Our issue is that the structure around the head coach is a ******** joke. You've got idiots calling the shots. The best bit is they actually think they are doing a good job, this despite 4 seasons now of complete failure and with the club being as far away from a PL return as it has been since the early 00s. 2
lanzaroteowl
All this crying about a bloke I've hardly heard of. If what's his name is what we aspire to then we really are fooked. Sheeite! There's surely better out there!?!
Incognito Owl
Firstly I had a feeling we had some late/past 11pm news and thought I'll have a look haha. After reading the artice it supports that we should have got him instead of pulis. Also the last paragraph was interesting "It's a fantastic opportunity for anyone, but people have to understand about modern day football, if you want to manage one of these good clubs you have to be able to manage. If you're not allowed to manage, then you're an employee not a manager." This shows why the talks are no longer happening. Cook wants to be a manager, but Chansiri wants a Head Coach, a non British person and a person who won't be big in the media. Not after bruce, monk and pulis. I had a feeling this would happen regarding Cook., thanks anyway Cookie.

Be happy with a pass it round at the back, continental coach. Can't recruit much better until have space in FFP to spend fees and or cash in on the few good value players this recruitment team have brought in like iorfa and reinvest

But for all intents and purposes it seems to be a similar system. Someone like Amadeu Paxaou has been like the sporting director but Chansiri probably takes on that role too. Except he has no defined clear role at the club and is not listed on the official website as an employee in the structure. Why not? Does he also advise for other clubs? It cannot be a similar or an effective system unless a clear structure and line of sight in terms of responsibility is in place.
Athelwulf
I think that we have to accept that if this club ever has any success under Chansiri then it will be purely by accident. It won't be by design. In slapstick comedy, the comedian repetitively makes the same mistake time and time again. And Chansiri just can't stop standing on that rake, or walking into that door.

Other clubs might use a recruitment team/DoF but the head coach still has a say in recruitment. You only have to watch Spurs all or nothing on Amazon to see this in action, they show exactly how it works Jose goes to the team tells them he needs a striker, they come back and give him dossiers on players they think are suitable. He watches tape, reads the reports and decides on Bergwijn, who they go ahead and sign. I reckon that's how it works at most clubs, except us. We're just throwing a mismatch of dog ends together and expecting the chef to make a gourmet dinner out of it.

Fairly sure Southampton and others have adopted the model whereby the club adopts an approach and recruitment strategy and the manager/coach feeds into that and manages the squad but isn’t in old school control. Doesnt float with traditional English managers but it’s not that unusual in modern football You are right about Southampton. However, they have a long term strategy that is clearly defined from the top of the club to the bottom. Every team and age group buys into this. As a player steps up an age group or to the first team he knows his job already. I don’t see that we can compare our shambles to a well run club with a long term strategy.

NOT jack whitham
Cook is the perfect fit for us at this moment in time but only Chansiri and his bunch of halfwits cant see it.

We lack a clearly defined structure and ours seems more fluid and ad hoc with various advisors but we do have a clearly identified recruitment team. The point was more that whilst “managers need to manage” some of the top ones don’t control everything at a club these days. So there is a need for some context. On the recruitment side the move toward younger althetic players and the into of more academy players represents the clubs current strategy.

marshy
There's a heap of difference between a European way of doing things, and the way DC appears to operate when it comes to managers and their roles. The key reason why Sourhampton's manager, Brentford's boss etc etc and even to a degree the way it worked for us with Carlos in season 1 was because it was done correctly. In Carlos's 1st season we had what was it, 15 new players. Ok, some didn't work out, that's football, but in the main it did work. Ask yourself why. Well, we had the "comittee" or what ever you wanted to call it. We had football people doing football jobs. Carlos was happy as he was used to doing things that way, yet since doing away with all that and DC doing it his way with his buddy it's all gone belly up. So, expect one of Europe's finest who's happy to be told who he's getting and fit them in, trying to appear like it's our "philosophy" Amazing how we've missed exactly what we need what is right under our nose, because of the fact he isn't allowed to manage. Seriously at the end of my patience with this clown.
